Well spotted. For anyone who has a Thomson model Sky+ HD STB I would certainly recommend that you consider this offer.

I suspect that you will be tied to a new 12 month contract. Otherwise I believe you would be better off.

Lol, offer "includes free self setup "

That's very good of them not to charge you for doing it yourself.

I think it's great that they're doing it publicly now.

Sky replaced my mums' thompson many moons ago, long before she (or i) knew anything about firmwares, epg compatibility etc.

      It was just a phonecall:
"we'll pop round & replace it for you".
      "Why?"
"It won't work with certain things in the future"
      "OK"

      Lol.

Historically the Thompson box swap hasn't been a recontract offer, they used to be offered a discounted 1Tb box which WAS a recontract though.

      I haven't been told otherwise recently. :-)

Does the replacement box come without a remote? The FAQ states:
Remember to keep your old cables, remote and viewing card.

The Sky+ HD remote control is the same for them all. Even if it does come with a new remote, it makes sense to keep the old one.

I can understand why they will suggest the rest too. I suspect a fair few have thrown out their viewing cards and cut the cables off before now.

I hope they do the same with the Pace, Samsung and 780 boxes that can't keep up with the advances being made with their new boxes.

Whilst I can't talk from personal experience, it does appear that quite a few Pace, Samsung and DRX780 owners are not happy with the current public firmware.

It will be interesting to see it when the next phase has been completed.
