      Sky Dish has Blown Away

      Hello,

Last night the Sky dish and TV Ariel fell off the house in hight winds,

I have contacted Sky and they have been very good by arranging to come out Monday to put a new one up. The old LNB was smashed to bits and the pole snapped in half.

I did try and get a 2 TB box off them for a discount but they were having none of that.

      Good Service from sky

      Nice try.

Hopefully all will be back to normal soon. In the mean time take a look around to see if the dish can be located else where to avoid this happening again. However there is only so much you can do to avoid the worst of the winds...

I was quite shocked to see that I could not watch the recorded TV or on demand while there is not a satellite signal being received.

During the recent bad weather(heavy snow) I had a long period where I got a 'No Satellite' message, I found that I could still watch from my Planner but every now and again it would drop out. I got it back by putting the box into Standby for a few minutes then switching on again. This happened every hour or so. Try that and see if it works, you could also try turning the power off completely for a few minutes then power up again. My box is a Samsung, different boxes may perform differently.

If that doesn't work, you may wish to check out the Sky Go app. It can be installed on a PC, Xbox (if you have the M$ Gold account) and a variety of Tablets and smartphones.

Also, as your aerial fell down, check out TVCatchup for viewing anything from the Freeview channels. Sadly TVCatchup only shows the London variation of the Freeview channels, but they are available and free to view. I find that the content is normally a matter of seconds behind what I could have seen over the air. With Sky Go it is normally a good minute behind.

You could make your own temporary Freeview TV aerial out of aluminium foil and cardboard.
