No - did not need to!

Just plugged the card in, switched the box ON and it worked!

I think the box "remembered" the card, and worked - just like it does if you take the card out of a working box, get the message "No card inserted" (or something like that) and then re-insert the card.

That was the case when it was HD box to SD box and then SD box to HD box.

Only when I bought a second HD box did I have to phone to pair the card with THAT one.

Re: you can now pair your viewing card online

      Hey All,
This sounds just like what i need. Currently have a Sky+160 that i upgraded ages ago to 1TB.
Been putting off movin to new box for ages because of all the lost content and series's we have on the box.
Now have a new 2TB HD box on way to me but i'm searching for a way to ensure we can run the old box for a few weeks or so to sort of run down and watch recorded stuff.
Do you guys think this will work ?? I know i may have to mess about with the feed coming in so eachbox has at least 1 F-Type connected but thats a small price to pay to ensure i dont loss all the reordings.

Any help pointers would be great as to if this is the way to go o of there is another option. (altho have tralled most of the forums).

      Cheers B.

You could wait a week or two but you would then need to install your new 2TB STB. If it is not installed within a month of ordering you are likely to have a charge put on your Sky account for the full cost of the box less any payment you have already made iaw Sky's T&Cs. As for whether you can then pair your viewing card back to the Sky+ box using the online pairing facility I am not sure. It would work between two Sky+ HD boxes but may not accept two boxes of different categories. If you do decide to try this please post your findings as they could be useful to someone else in a similar situation.

If you are familiar with upgrading the disk, why not transfer your recordings from the old disk to the new one?

My only concern would be that of invalidating the guarantee on the new STB.

That is a risk everyone who transfers an old disk to a new one takes. As long as you are careful not to damage the case when you dismantle it, there should not be a problem.

Problem with the 2TB box is that, unlike many earlier boxes, it has a seal across one of the case joints, and it will be difficult to remove without damaging it.

Thanks - Possibly the better idea because it should soften the adhesive.
