1tb HDD from my amstrad 780 into a Amstrad 890

Hi all, my amstrad 780 1tb box is playing up...top buttons on box no longer work (bummer when batteries on remote go) and intermittent sound...so I have decided to (hopefully) transfer the 1tb drive into a amstrad 890 500gb I got from eBay....Sky wanted £164 for a 1tb box from me I told them I would rather get a cheap box from eBay and do it myself..they wished me well

      I have two questions:

      1. As the 1tb drive is already in use on a Sky box do I still need to initialize through a pc first...my mate thinks I might need to (hope not its a a pain through a laptop)

      2. Is there a guide to changing a HDD on a Amstrad 890 anywhere, I have found a guide to most models but not this one.

      Many Thanks

      Barrie

Replying to my own post...have found a guide on the copy plus site, just would like confirmation re: not having to initialize drive in pc before installing in the 890 from anyone with such knowledge.
      Thanks

Copy+ doesn't work on the DRX780 and DRX890 now so please DO NOT USE IT on this 1TB drive.

Since the File System for both the DRX780 and DRX890 are the same, I would have expected there to be no issues, provided that the drive doesn't have a fault.

Hopefully mrmt32 can confirm things as he is the guru who composed the ExPVR software.

Thanks scubbie....no I was not going to use copy plus on the drive anyway...and I have heard from another source that there is no need to initialize as the 890 will do that with a system reset, at least I think that's how it was said

A System Reset will wipe your drive I think, so be careful if you want to keep recordings. Maybe you should send a PM to mrmt32 for some good advice.

Thanks for reply...I am not really bothered with keeping stuff on the 1tb drive...nothing on there "I just cant live without" , I am going to swap drives this weekend all being well...will I need a special screwdriver keeps coming into my mind from past experiences, I have a "torx" screwdriver from some time ago that was required on a sky plus box I think.??
Anyway onwards and upwards...just going to watch a programme all about the history of toilets...my missus has gone to bed shaking her head muttering about me "losing it"
      Regards

All the screws used are the 'cross' or 'Phillips' type.

You will need some old flat knifes, such as used on the dining table and a pair of pliers too.

As for your wife's comments... sorry, can't help you there.
