I pulled the plug and rebooted my receiver.
That has improved the picture quality but it is still darker than before the upgrade.

Very unusual.
Can I suggest that you contact Sky directly as you appear to be the only one who has experienced this strange effect.
Normally I would encourage you to check your cables and to ensure that no one has accidentally changed the TV settings. I would assume that you have already done this and that a phone call to Sky is in order.

Would the forced update do anything on a pace box yet, or do we have to wait?

All the Amstrad DRX890 and DRX895 STBs should be updated by the end of this week.
After this time the other STBs should start to be updated over the next couple of months.Last edited by Scubbie; 10-07-12 at 05:57 PM. Reason: corrected planned completion schedule

Is anybody having problems with Live Pause and Rewind not working properly?, my upgraded STB has done this several times, when simply pausing, rewinding then then failing to replay properly. It has also frozen a couple of time including a plain blue screen, stuck playback led circle.. Not happy.

Hello rcw088, I think this is one of the outstanding bug with this version. There are quite a few additional changes to come and Sky are working to fix a few bugs like this. This only happened a couple of times during the testing and it was decided to progress with it.
I think that they have identified the issue and it will be fixed in the next beta release. So I trust that you will be happier with the next release.
There will be some more additional beta releases before the next major public roll out that is planned I believe for September/October.
In the mean time, could you try a Planner Rebuild please? This may help your STB with the issues that you are experiencing.
Using your remote control, press <Service> <Right> <Down> 0 1 <Select> 7 <Down>
This should have selected "Sky+ Rebuild", also known as 'Planner Rebuild'. Follow the instructions on screen to complete this non-destructive process. Please DO NOT select 'System Reset' as it will wipe the hard drive.
A Planner rebuild will take about 10-15 minutes.
The people coding the new firmware have a list of known bugs and they are working through them. There are two more planned major updates for everyone and currently they are in the process of debugging the next major stage before the new features are added. When the version is ready with the new features, it will then be released.
The plan is then to work on then next major release and when that is ready, it will be released hopefully around the end of the year or early next year.

Hopefully all the bugs will be exterminated before the Samsung release.

Still no news on the release for the other STBs, including the Samsung.
As for the bugs, I am hoping that with this new approach by Sky that many more will be identified sooner and that this will mean that less people will experience any problems.
Sky knows that with over 10 million customers, of whom over 6 million (I think) have Sky+ HD and SkyHD STBs, many people will not wish to experience these problems. It was bad enough watching the various reports on the forums regarding the DRX780 and Thomson STBs with regards to the updates for 'Darwin'. I do not believe that they wish to go through this again.
