Next Steps for the Enhanced EPG

      "What’s Next?

      Hi,

We would like to give you some more information on the next steps for this software release and timescales of future software releases, as well as our view on the early release of software in future.

In terms of software releases, we have another feature release following this one in the next few months, and we expect another feature release late 2012/early 2013. In terms of the features in those releases the roadmap is commercially sensitive so any information on those will come from official marketing messages and we are not going to discuss those here.

We can however tell you that we certainly intend to bring the enhanced EPG to the other “Darwin” platforms, Pace HD, Samsung HD and DRX780. Given the success of the forum trial on the DRX89*, we will probably do an early release for those platforms also. We will not be updating the Thomson HD platform as previously stated.

What’s next for you and for this software release? As you know, we rolled out version 49.19 to you this week. Your detailed feedback about your experiences has greatly helped us to prioritise the defects that had to be fixed before we could bring the enhanced EPG to a wider audience. As a result of the excellent dialogue we’ve had with you here, we are pretty confident with version 49.19, confident enough that this is likely to be our release candidate for the next stage of rollout.

We know that not all the bugs you reported are fixed, but we are also aware that there is a further release within a few months so we’ll be continuing work on bug fixes to go into that version, which is already in parallel development and approaching early stage trials.

In terms of the early release of software to the forum group, we feel this has been a highly positive step, and we really appreciate your engagement and all the feedback you have provided. This has been extremely valuable to us and we will certainly be planning to continue this approach. This may sometimes involve early access to features, but not always, as sometimes we pre-release box code in preparation for changes in other back end systems. In these cases your feedback on stability will be really valuable if you are willing to help us.

Thank you again for your enthusiastic participation on this forum! We are still of course listening to issues and feedback you post here, and we have a roadmap of future releases where we will continue to improve the enhanced EPG as well as develop new features, so all your feedback is still important to us.

Phooey! I was hoping that they might of actually confirmed the state of play with some of the many rumours floating around already.

Since the only real competitor currently available is VM, it would have been better for them to have said something IMHO.

The Humax Foxsat STB has far better features that the Sky+ HD STB, but it is Freesat only.

Yes light on detail and dates as always!

VM is scheduled to launch an app for remote management of TiVo in September. I'd like to think that the next big feature from Sky will be the revamp of the Sky+ app to allow (at least) remote management of Sky+ boxes and that it will be on the market before VM's TiVo app!

So does this mean people not on the test/trial (customers) will get access to the new EPG anytime soon, or not? If so, when?

If VM are launching a remote control app in September, then I guess that Sky ought to get cracking and move ahead with their plans sooner.

It has been asked. When the date is announced someone will hopefully post the information on this forum.
