Question regarding upgrade to HD
Hi all, moved in with my missus, who currently has Sky + in the living room. I've just bought a nice new 42 Panasonic Viera, and want to get Multiroom with HD in the bedroom.
I spoke to one of those Sky blokes you see in town who mentioned a cost breakdown. But said I'd have to have an HD box in the living room installed too? Only really want one HD box for our bedroom, I know I'll have to pay the installation fee for the quad/(hopefully) octo-LNB.
I would ideally want a TB Sky Box.
Is there any truth in what he said about needing 2 HD boxes? Or can we just keep the Sky+ box in the living room and get the HD box for the bedroom.

Re: Question regarding upgrade to HD
You should be able to just add a HD box with multiroom and only watch the HD channels on the HD box.
Have a look in MySky and see what it allows you to do.

Re: Question regarding upgrade to HD
What Ged has said is correct, however there are developments coming soon to the Sky+ HD STB.
If the option to get a Sky+ HD or the 1TB Sky+ HD STB from Sky is too much, consider looking on eBay for one.
What developments? There was a story posted back in December about the SkyHD STB being able to access the contents of the Sky+ HD STB if they are on the same network. This would mean that you could record something in the lounge and watch it with either STB. This is possibly one of the extras being added to the new EPG which starts its first public trial next week.
Other extras may include the ability to use your Laptop, iPad or mobile to access the contents too.
If purchasing off eBay, I would advise against getting the Thomson if you want to do any of the above.

Re: Question regarding upgrade to HD
Hi, my first post here.
One thing to remember is that the HD sub is good for all multiroom boxes so, as above, you could pick up a deal on eBay etc. I recently bought a DRX890 for £27 and works fine.
Also if your wife has an online Sky a/c you could try ordering there. I had quite a problem working out the best way to get a new HD 1TB box as cheap as poss. It just seemed what ever I did the charge was over £150. Then almost by accident i did something in a different order and got the following:
Went to multiroom from the menu and first requested a replacement box, a 1TB version, then went to the 3 options in Multiroom 1. a HD non plus box 2. standard HD and 3. 1TB box. Select 1.
I then got the package for £99 one off inc install and a free non HD non plus box which I dont actually need as I have another box I just got from eBay. Plus the monthly charge.
Hope that helps.
Yes and I am really looking forward to sharing boxes via the home network that has been the main reason I never went with multiroom before. Now having succumbed I hear this news. Great! Only thing is the post says the non+ HD box, I hope it would apply to all. Why wouldn't it?
Cheers
Alan

Re: Question regarding upgrade to HD
Hi guys, cheers for the advice. I am looking to get the + features so I can record my own thing. Just wanted to make sure I didn't need to upgrade the existing box in the living room and could keep it as it is.
So in terms of costing it's £69 for the new LNB and then £99 for the 1TB+ box according to Sky. Plus the £10.25 a month to upgrade to Sky HD.

Re: Question regarding upgrade to HD
The way the online system works it is difficult to play with the options, as as soon as you login it bases options on what you have already.
As above I think you should get install including upgraded LNB if needed for free. As in my last post I got quoted £169 on the phone but if you do it online first check the replacement box for a 1TB and then in the multiroom options add 1 to the middle one i.e. standard Sky+ HD (500GB) it should charge you £99 for the 1TB and I think £49 for the second with free install. As I said I cant check from my a/c but worth a try in that you would end up paying less than you quote and get your wife a replacement HD box ( I know you dont actually need it but the HD sub does not increase).
If you just want the 1TB replacement then select the multiroom SkyHD (NOT +) for free and sell or don't use it. Cost then should be £99 all in.
Good Luck
Alan
