Blocky resolution from 1tb box
I received a new Andreas 1tb box at the end of last year from sky and have found it to be great, I have noticed tho that occasionally on both hd and standard channels there is sometimes a strange effect on blacks and backgrounds. Instead of there being a gradual tonal change between black, grey and light colours (eg like lens flare) there seems to be a blocky shimmery effect mush like on a pc if resolution is incorrect.I know I'm prob explaining the effect poorly sorry! This can be quite off putting. I never noticed it happening with my old thomson box that I had for years. I am using a toshiba LCD tv that shows in 1080i, and have the sky settings set to that not auto as has been mentioned in the forums. Is this one of the faults that is mentioned about with these boxes? normally I find the picture quality to be fine, no ghosting, snow or sound probes, just this one problem. Could it be the dish? The signal shows as almost full on both in the system settings .???

Re: Blocky resolution from 1tb box
I can only assume you mean a new Amstrad box, unless you've receieved a hand me down brand new box from someone called Andrea at Sky
. So it's just a problem on blacks, greys and white, and not colour. Assuming you're connected using an HDMI cable, try connecting using the SCART cable that comes in the box. If that remidies it then it's a problem with the HDMI cable and you just need to get a replacement one of those, you can pick them up online for as little as a couple of pounds + postage.
If it STILL does it, then it's either the box or the TV, you could try viewing a different source (for example a PS3 or an Xbox if you have one, maybe even a DVD player) to see if it does it with that on your TV. If it's JUST the sky box that causes this problem, then give sky a call and arrange for an installer to come and have a look, it'd be worth getting a bit of evidence in the form of photos or something to show him what you mean, as things often have a tendency of working after you've spent a while waiting to get things fixed.
