BBC One HD - What's the point?

BBC One HD cannot yet show programmes from every part of the UK.....

So why launch a HD channel if you are going to be seeing this every now and then. Or do they expect us to keep switching back to 101 when they cannot be bothered to show stuff?

They may as well have kept the preview channel and give someone else the EPG number.

      calm down dear

basicaly theres only 1 region of BBC One HD, this is because the cant yet afford/get and bandwidth on the satellites. the could just simulcast london news etc. but that is not fair, but next year like ITV 1 HDthere will be regional variaions.

this is a big stepforward into hd becoming a main tv channel, once most channels have migrated to HD we will see SD channel closures when HD has become standard

why can't they show News 24, that's not regional? The Six o clock news is shared with News 24 anyway, so it would be a good alternative.

      ^^^

So if a broadcaster (ITV) can do it, then why can the BBC not do it?

ITV has made no secret it was short of cash etc, BBC have all our licence fees to pay for it. Like I say, they should have kept it how it was, HD content available on the preview one, instead of making a big splash and song and dance about BBC One HD.

The red screen is there again now. Pointless.

like everything the BBC seems to do, they are the last of the terrestials to get to the table and now they seemed to have made a hash of it.

I'm not seeing that. There is some kids gameshow on at the moment. Surely BBC Scotland is not ahead of some English regions.

Re: BBC One HD - What's the point?

i think it would a be a good idea to show a simulcast of news24 during this time. why not contact the head of bbc hd, she frequently posts on her bog at bbc.co.uk

i think multiple regions are coming soon, because it is possible to have regional stations on DTT so i dont think satallite will be too long

They're not filming news in HD anyway, so even if it was broadcast one One HD it would be no different to that of the standard BBC1.

They could upscale it, either way it would be better then a red screen saying,

BBC One HD cannot yet show programmes from every part of the UK.....
