Sky HD to become even worse value for money!

Just received an email from Sky. Apart from lots of guff about their 3D service (which I've got zero interest in) they also mention that new HD channels are on their way, but that they're killing of HD channels that are outwith your base packs...

Important changes to your HD service

We also wanted to let you know that on or around the 5th October 2010, we are changing the way we offer our HD channels by aligning them to your Sky TV subscription. For example, to enjoy great HD dramas on Sky1 HD, you would need to have the Variety Pack which includes Sky1; and you'll need the Knowledge Pack to watch those beautiful HD documentaries on National Geographic HD and Discovery HD.

Please get in touch if you want to discuss your current TV package or upgrade to any other Entertainment Packs currently from just 1 extra per month.

We hope that everything is clear and that you carry on enjoying all the great programmes and services you get with Sky.

      Kind regards,

      The Sky Team
Given I recently signed up for another year of HD on their 1TB offer I've written to complain about the reduction in HD channels I'm going to experience with this change - seems like the 10/month HD sub is getting even worse value!

Re: Sky HD to become even worse value for money!

I will never get my head around how a CONTRACT can be changed by one party but not the other.
For e.g. Sky offer all the HD channels for an extra 10/month (min. 12 months) and then change it to "only the packs you have".
If you contacted Sky and said I no longer want/need/can afford the HD channels can I cancel they would say "you're in a 12 month CONTRACT, therefore you have to continue. ?????

Same with the BB. I signed up for the MID package at 40GB/month allowance and then they capped it at 10Gb.

I'm very interested in the BB with no TV offer but as I have only had the HD box a month so I am "tied" into a 12 month contract.

How do companies get away with it. ???

From what i've seen elsewhere, ifyou are within a contract period, then yo can keep all the current HD channels you receive by calling Sky.

Well I've emailed them to ask for effectively that. Their first reply was the usual drivel (telling me how I can upgrade my package on MySky!) - I politely pointed out they hadn't in any way answered my question and asked them to go away and think again. Will see what they come back with!

you probably got an automatic reply. If there is no advisor name on the bottom, then it wasn't actually looked at by a person yet.

Good point - although a bit silly them not highlighting it was automated (and although it doesn't have a name it does say "I hope this helps with your enquiry") and no indication that anyone else would look at it. Will see what a human being replies with!

I was thinking about cancelling my HD 10/month subscription anyway. I think this latest money grabbing attempt from Sky has just made up my mind!

Me too, they constantly come up with more ways to rip you off, I'm thinking of dumping them all together and getting a gym membership with the money, much healthier !!

I think I shall simply wait and see. No point losing any sleep about anything till the full details are known.

I'm spitting feathers about this, I'll vent at them at premium rate later.
