      HDD PSU or something else?

      Hi everyone

I purchased a Sky+HD box back in November and it's generally worked fine though once or twice it has reset when I was watching the football on Sky Sports HD last season but for example recently I've been watching the cricket which stays on much longer and it's been fine. Also watching other HD channels no issues.

      Thompson Box Details:
      Model no. 902020
      Ver no. 4E3004
      OS ver. 1.32B12
      EPG SW Ver. sky+8.3.2

Recently I've had a bit of a reoccuring issue, if somethings started recording and I try to watch it from the start whilst it's recording the planner will either lock up or the box will just drop in to standby. Also my girlfriend has noticed a couple of programs have only part recorded but not failed.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues? From what I've read it could either be the HDD or the PSU?

      Thanks

You can usually check the condition of the power supply visually. Turn the mains power off, take the lid off the box and take a close look at the power supply "the rectangular board at the side" Look at the condition of the "capacitors" these look like tiny miniture AA batterys standing upright on the board. The tops of them should be flat, if the tops are bulging or have any black substance leaking out of the top of them then they are knackered. In which case can be resolved with a repair kit, in which case the new capacitors will need soldering in, or a replacement power supply, or call Sky out for £65 and get the box swapped.
