Re: Samsung HD Box - How to change the HDD
Well, my Sky HD box was the first one to have Anytime on it, and before I got it I thought it would be a waste of time, but I find that I use it a lot, and I would not like to lose it. If I have a half-hour gap between live programmes, I can slip in an Anytime documentary, and quite often they put the latest HD movie from the movies package on Anytime, which means that I don't have to record it off-air and risk a clash with something else.

That is what I find most useful, it is very handy being able press a button to transfer a Movie from Anytime to your PlannerI can slip in an Anytime documentary, and quite often they put the latest HD movie from the movies package on Anytime, which means that I don't have to record it off-air and risk a clash with something else.
It would be even better if it could 'learn' what you watched and download programs to suit. I don't subscribe to Kids or Arts so would like more documentaries instead.

Re: Samsung HD Box - How to change the HDD
Great news, the Hitachi Drive works
38% free having copied everything off my Seagate one over.
Here's a link to Hitachi for the tools to lower the acoustics.
http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/suppor...tm#FeatureTool
Although the current version does not support this feature.
Update:
http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/suppor.../ftool_212.iso is a CD image of the tool that does. How long this file lasts though is anyone's guess. Download it and then burn to CD and then boot your PC from CD to use the tools.Last edited by NewsreadeR; 12-05-09 at 07:07 PM.

Re: Samsung HD Box - How to change the HDD
Do any of these HDD suggestions work in the Samsung boxes built this year? I understand that they work in some produced last year, but maybe not the newer ones.

Re: Samsung HD Box - How to change the HDD
Great stuff, so what is your definitive 1TB hard drive to put in it. I have tried a Samsung Spinpoint and it kept cutting out, just don't want to keep buying 'em and flogging them on, luckily the last one ended up in my PC as I needed a bit more space in there anyway.
Cheers

Re: Samsung HD Box - How to change the HDD
Hitachi DeskStar 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 16MB Cache - OEM is the one I have in at the moment, no issues whatsoever so far, and that's after copying 638gb off the old Seagate, which is now in my PC

I haven't tried recording anything yet, although I have some stuff lined up for tonight. Playback of Anytime programmes is fine, so I guess the recordings should also be.
See this post if you want to change the acoustics of the HDD - I guess it makes it quieter?
