Samsung HD Box - Walkthrough on how to change the Hard Drive

This guide will show you how to upgrade the Hard Drive in your Samsung HD Box

If you wish to upgrade the Thomson HD Box, please use this guide - Thomson HD Box - Walkthrough on how to change the Hard Drive
If you wish to upgrade the Pace HD Box, please use this guide - Pace HD Box - Walkthrough on how to change the Hard Drive
If you wish to upgrade the Amstrad HD Box, please use this guide - GUIDE WANTED

Tested Hard Drives:
Seagate 1TB Seagate HD Int PIPELINE 7200 3.5" 1000GB/SATA/32MB - ST31000533CS

Disclamer:
The HDD has not been changed, just removed and put back, apparantly some Seagate 1TBs will not work.
On my particular model there is no warranty sticker, if there is one on yours and you break or remove it you will have voided your warranty
Please add to the thread any HDDs that you have working in the Samsung Sky+HD box

Default Hard Disk:
Size - 320GB
Make - Western Digital
Model - WD3200AVJS
Interface - Sata-300
Speed - 7200rpm
Buffer - 8MB
Transfer Rate - 300Mbps

Step 1
Tools Required:
Flat head screwdriver
Philips head screwdriver
New HDD

Preperation:
Get something to put the screws into
Get the tools together
Be gentle and careful

Step 2

Remove the screws on the rear of the box

Remove the 6 screws on the underside and unclip the tabs

Slide off the case towards the front while gently wiggling it

Step 3

Remove the screw from the PSB and slide towards the front

Remove the screw from each side and release the clips

Remove the screws from the front panel and slide off to the right

Step 4

Remove the screws holding the hard drive in place

Lift the hard drive up and remove the cables

You now have the box and the hard drive seperated

Step 5

Add your new hard drive and work backwards through steps 4-1 to put your box back together

Re: Samsung HD Box - Walkthrough on how to change the Hard Drive

I got a 1TB Hitachi SATA drive for £73 3 weeks ago from Dabs and that's working fine in my Thompson box.

Trouble is that prices for technology are fluctuating wildly at the moment.

Re: Samsung HD Box - Walkthrough on how to change the Hard Drive

apparently you can use up to a 1TB drive now inside the box without any problems, but I have not tried it and at least with copy+ you know it will do the job properly, especially when getting a virgin drive.
