      Monthly Charge for +HD

Are we likely to have to pay a tenner a month ad-infinitum?

Now that the price of boxes is on the way down, can we all look forward to a reduced monthly charge as HD gradually becomes the standard?

Sky are offering new digiboxes for basement prices. The money will be recouped over time thru' the HD sub. They are not likely to abate this HD charge as long as they collectively have rectal orifices. So don't hold your breath.

There are lots of extra costs involved in broadcasting HD!!! For example having to rent more transponders and re-equiping studios and/or playout systems.

This is likely to make the growth of FTA HD very slow - and Sky will want to keep their fee (which has been the key to their rapid HD growth!) for as long as possible (and it does currently give access at least 13 HD channels not otherwise available in the UK)

      Re: Monthly Charge for +HD

I'm not really complaining. I knew what I signed up for - I was just looking to the future and hoping for a lower monthly fee. In my opinion HD will gradually become the standard - why continue to produce bog standard boxes, sky+ boxes, +HD boxes when one size could fit all? I have the talk/surf/broadband package and it's pretty reasonable but I'd be happier with say a fiver a month for HD wouldn't others?
