HD Sound Occasionally Out of Synch

Hi all,

Got Sky HD istalled at weekend and the sound is beginning to frustrate me.

Normal channels the picture and sound are aligned and much of the time on HD channels also. Occasionally however the audio and picture go out of synch.

I'm trying to notice a pattern when it does it, the first time was watching back a HD film recording and then after turning the film off due to the delay SS HD was also out of synch live.

A power off on remote and back on seemed to solve the delay however upon watching a movie later live but also being recorded it happened again. The strange thing was halfway through the film, without me doing anything it seemed to align.

Please can anyone advise, it's driving me crazy.

Its only a fraction out, however, once you notice its unbareable.

I dont have and Home Cinema stuff etc connected, just the box with HD lead to TV.

Thanks for your help

Re: HD Sound Occasionally Out of Synch

Hi, fraid I can't offer any advice, I can only commiserate. We had a new box installed 20th August and get the same thing happening with the sound. I'ts not all the time but as you say very irritating to watch. I've requested a new box because there's a high pitched hum coming from this one, don't know if that will make a difference to the sync issue.

Rgds

I was initially really pleased with my Pace box but now the lip synch issue is getting really annoying - it changes every day, and some channels are worse than others.

I suggest we all complain to Sky, in the hope they will hurry up with a software upgrade. They should at least offer us a refund until they get there act together.

If you tell Sky that you have a fault, then Sky will replace the box under warranty. The replacement may be new or "as new" and of a differant make.
The obligation on Sky is to supply you with a working HD receiver, dish, cables etc. There is no obligation on them to supply a new box, just a working one.

What make boxes are people having issues with? All boxes suggests a source issue, a single box points to that box type. The original Thomson box has had a few years now to iron out timing issues.
Also can people state what channels are affected, is it just ones with Dolby, or all channels?

That may be so Brian. My take on it though.

Sky do not rent you a HD box, therefore the customer has to buy a HD box.

As per any retail sale, you have the rights of the consumer. Therefore, if I pay for a HD box, I should get a brand new one, unless I was offered a refurb at a lower price.

If an item goes wrong within the first 30 days, it should be replaced or refunded. If replaced within 30 days you are quite within your rights to expect a new item and not a refurbished one. After the 30 days, you would lose the right for a refund or a new item, and would therefore be expected to accept a refurb one.

Most printer companies follow this policy if you buy say an Epson or a HP printer.

If Sky tried to deliver a refurb unit to me on first install, I would reject that item, under the Sale of Goods act.

Wherever goods are bought they must "conform to contract". This means they must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality (i.e. not inherently faulty at the time of sale).

ie a refurb is not a new item, therefore, not as described.

The fact that there is obviously a problem with the design, ie lipsync, would deem also, either inherently faulty, or not of satisfactory quality.

Judging by the majority of threads, its the Pace box that has the issues.

Theres timing information within the transport streams which allow the box to lock up the video and audio along with a System clock within the STB, so it sounds like Pace have an issue with using the timing info. Does the PACE box also have issues with SD channels? Specifically SD movie channels with Dolby I wonder?

From what I hear, the samsung isn't fairing too well either now it's been out in the field for a couple of weeks.
