      re: Sky+ HD channels

Hi, waiting for my HD box to turn up tommorow and noticed this post, is this correct or am I simply reading it wrong

It appears to me that with a HD box & TV but without a HD subscription I can still view all HD except Sports & Movies. I can also order Box office movies in HD format, is this right as I thought I would only have BBC HD without subscription?

      Arrgggggh Im confused..

      re: Sky+ HD channels

      Nope.

If you do not have a Sky HD subscription the only (current) HD channel you will be able to view is BBC HD (C4 HD & ITV HD are coming soon).

To view any of the Sky HD channels requires a Sky HD subscription.

To view the Sports/Movies HD channels also requires a Sports/Movies subscription.

AFAIK, you need the Sky HD sub to be able to use Box Office HD.

Also, going by posts at DigitalSpy, if you have an HD sub, you apparently do not need to have all the Mixes to be able to receive all the non-Premium HD channels. It seems if you e.g. just have Variety & Knowledge plus the HD sub, you'll get Sky 1 HD, Discovery HD etc, but you still also get Sky Arts HD (even without the Style Mix)

At the moment BBCHD plays "This is what you could have" broadcasts until around 8pm. It then plays reapeats of previously aired programmes althouhg Heroes & Strictly Come dancing are both on.

If you go here you will see the listings
Listings for BBC HD on Wednesday, October 31 2007

I hear that the BBC trial is nearly over so could possibly lose that channel for a while, until they start for real..

      re: Sky+ HD channels

I have bought HD to trial, seeing as i invested in a new HD tv. I am not contracted so i can switch off anytime. There are not many channels yet so its expensive at 10 quid a month. The best channels to demonstrate HD are the wildlife and planet earth type programmes from discovery. It annoys me when they put non HD programmes on HD channels tho, I mean .....WHY?????

Its a novelty at the moment, i mean who wants to watch come dancing ih HD? (who wants to watch it anyway???)

But what i have found is a problem is when you switch back to normal TV...its "bad quality" lol

      re: Sky+ HD channels

You could certainly see what a bad state the pitch at Wembley was in last night. And that American football match was, what, a month ago now? Shocking. Groundskeepers will have to make more of an effort now we have HD.

Personally, I like the way they show SD programmes on HD channels. We're going to have to accept that not all programmes are going to be made in HD, so you're left with two choices, simulcast like Sky One and Sky One HD, or show a selection of programmes like you have with BBC HD. The problem with BBC HD is that it can be hard to follow when your favourite programmes are available in HD and if so, when they'll be shown. If there were HD versions of the standard channels, you can just stay on those and enjoy HD programming as and when its available.
