I have been with Sky Broadband Max for well over a year now. Have been enjoying long periods of unrestricted stable sync, and sync speeds have varied slightly depending on line conditions at the time. Fitted the filtered face plates from the start etc.
Sync speeds have been recorded in my log. Have been seeing download speeds up to 3.7M, with stable speeds around 3.2M.
All of a sudden, my download speed went down to 2M. When I noticed the significant performance drop, I did a manual reboot on that occasion to get a better speed, but found for the first time that I got the same exact 2M speed again. Evidence of capping.
Wrote a letter to Sky, and included selected stats from the previous year, and made a case that if my line has to be capped, then my line is worthy of a 3M cap.
Got a reply to call their helpdesk, so did so early evening. Chap called Chris took my call, checked my account, and then agreed to proceed to set my requested speed of 3072 768. Took about 10-15 mins.
It has now been a month to this day. The Sky router rebooted itself once during this time, and I am still on 3072 768. Service is stable as always. For my usage, the speed and stability is fine for my current needs.
So best to keep a log of your stats, so it can be used like I did to make a case.
I suspect I was capped at 2M as part of some wider policy programme, as some customers probably would not notice or realise, but some like me are aware of the service, and Sky were waiting for people that notice to phone them up.
In any case, I am happy with the broadband service, and am particularly happy with the negotiation I made with customer services in this instance.
