I love SkyBB 21Mb is coming!
I have been with SkyBB for just over a year and would say I have had 95% up time of the Internet with them, I think of myself of those people that live pretty close to the change point with good cables to the house which of course equals to great speeds, I am on the 16Mb packaged and I wouldn't change it with any for any of ISP, that would be like measuring the depth of the water with both feet
Here are my stats tell me what you guys think:
Connection Speed: 15000 kbp/764 kbps
Line Attenuation: 22.0 d/10.1 db
Noise Margin: 9.7 db/17.0 db
Also if that wasn't enough, they're going to be providing 21Mb speeds, this will be given to the customers that are on the 16Mb package BUT only if their line can support it, I have been told by support that it can support 21Mb and on top that I won't have to pay anything to get it LOL
Sky are upgrading all the change points so we can get this

Theoretically you should get a fair bit more. However and I don't want to dampen your spirits too much, it appears your line is capped. Lines are not capped for the fun of it, there must be a reason. Until your line can operate without a cap you will get no more speed.

Re: I love SkyBB 21Mb is coming!
hi I am confused my stats are similar to kastheone2008. I phoned up sky twice and asked for any cap to be removed and was told that if they removed any cap the line would be unstable, Do not get why 1mg would do this ? . Asking about the upgrade for max users i was told dlm would sort any problem when it starts, so Isitme are you saying we will not receive the new speeds when they upgrade max users
my stats
SNR (dB): 12.3 15.5
Attn(dB): 22.0 12.6
Pwr(dBm): 15.5 12.8
Max(Kbps): 21288 884
Rate (Kbps): 15323 766

Re: I love SkyBB 21Mb is coming!
Upload's going up aswell isn't it? 1.3Mbps I'm thinking for some reason, must've read it somewhere. Shame it's not as nice as O2's 2.5Mbps but, a free upgrade is a free upgrade.
Any idea when Sky will upgrade to draft-n routers or we stuck with buying one seperately and linking them?

Re: I love SkyBB 21Mb is coming!
Thanks for the replies
@IsItMe: Of course my line is capped hehe because sometimes when they set it to 16Mb after 3-4 weeks the connection gets a bit iffy, also are you referring to the 1500Kbps cap? Just to be clear :P
@j.tahaney: It is a touchy subject tech support are doing it for the betterment of your service, personally I trust what they say, I would say next time called them should some nerdy intelligence and then tell them that you understand the risk of uping the speeds say your take full responablility also say you'll monitor the connection if it is a nice guy he'll do it
@IAmNotTheEnemy: My source is from 2 places Google news and the SkyBB tech support guy he was telling me that as soon as it's place they'll have the power to cap the speeds from 21Mb and downwards
@MarkBean: Nice name, for me it'll be 1.-- something Mb. Mate I totally agree I think that Max customers should get a free N router if they want it, customers needs have changed so must in the past 5 years. Let me put it this say if any ISP which to start shipping N router I think it would be Sky why? Because they were the first to remove the "fair use policy". I download GBs of data every month and never have been capped, anyway if that is anything to go by then I expect N routers pretty damn soon

The connection does not get a bit iffy because it is 16mb,. it get's a bit iffy if you have noise on your line and your sync rate is causing errors which yours is, you will not get any more speed without the noise and the cap removed. I have had full 16mb since I connected, never got iffy for me as I fitted a filtered faceplate to remove my internal wiring from the loop.

Why is it touchy? that's what they are supposed to do, if the line has been capped it is usually done for a reason but DLM has been known to get things wrong a call to CST should sort this out, ring after 10:30pm to get throught to CST directly.

IANTE works for Sky CST and this has been verified by others from the inside here a few times now, 20mb seems to be the concensus here. BTW, they already cap the speeds down from 24mb to 16mb, the speed is already there, Sky choose not to use it.

Some ISP's are and have already shipped draft n routers, BT for one. I doubt Sky will do so in the near future anyway, can you imagine all the people who would want one. Wireless sucks, run leads or fit homeplugs, much better.

I wasn't blaming it on the fact that it's 16Mb, sometimes there are unknown factors wouldn't you agree? In my case I sometimes experience extreme slow connection over a period of 2-3 days, then supports says the it's fine from their end and I reply with saying it's fine on mine (basic computer maintenance) and replacing the filter, my point being when they have increased the speeds by 1 oe 2Mb the Internet speeds shoot up, you can't blame that on line noise etc, I am just saying that Sky is pretty dam good =D

I agree, I have a 0800 number that puts me through level 3 support

I think whole point is weather that can implement the 24Mb, guessing they couldn't and that's why it was set to 16Mb until the time comes
Wireless has its time and place, I use the homeplugs they're damn great, as to the N routers that doesn't mean that won't

Re: I love SkyBB 21Mb is coming!
Kas...
Just cause Sky offer 20Mbps down/1.3Mbps up and your stats show you can achieve it you might not actually get it...I wouldn't get your hopes up until it happens (which'll be a few weeks after the 22nd and will mean going through DLM again)...
And regarding Sky not offering 2.5Mbps - it's cause Sky aren't using Annex M like O2...

No, in your case you have a very good noise margin and to be honest I don't see why Sky could not have given you the maximum 16Mb. There is a chance that your NM swings a lot, which may effect the stability, but it looks to me like you should get 18-19Mb. This is a guess, as going above 16Mb with Sky is new territory, I don't think anyone can say what will happen. The only ones who can be sure they will get 20Mbs are those with single figure attenuation and a decent noise margin.
On the reason for 20 Mb instead of 24, BT have stated that they are capping it at this as the number who could get the full 24 would be very very small. Sky are no doubt applying the same principle.
On Draft N routers, these do not make one bit of difference to the internet speed or stability. They improve the wireless capabilities with the LAN, that is all. If you want N router capabilities there is nothing to stop you attaching one of hese to the Sky router. My personal opinion is that these have destroyed wireless networking for many others as the overwhelm the available frequencies.
