Sky enabled today and .........

Very happy. I was getting 1.25Meg with my previous ISP and now getting 3Meg from sky. My att is 63dB as I am so far from the exchange. I play online gaming and was a little sad to see my pings were around 75. I phoned sky and after getting past the first broken english call worker I managed to speak to someone who knew what they were doing. They said that because I was still in DLM they are not allowed to change the max delays. I then explained that I wasnt prepared to wait 10 days and then be stuck with sky for a year as you can only cancel within the first 8 days. She was very nice and changed my delays for me. Not sure what she changed them to but now ping at around 35 so I am happy.

Hi Skooby.
Glad you are happy with Sky, and don't forget to read the cable and faceplate section as you have a long line and every bit helps towards good performance.
As you are a new customer, could you lets us know what information Sky told you with respect to DLM please? this could be of help to others who may have problems with it.

Re: Sky enabled today and .........

it'll be changed back, everyone on new connections has to go through one full cycle of DLM before it can be turned off...after those first 10 days, IF still unhappy, it can then be suspended...

it should've been in the welcome letter you'd have DLM and for them to turn it off it going to lead to a slapped wrist...if you didn't want DLM then should've gone elsewhere...

Re: Sky enabled today and .........

Yes I knew there would be DLM for the first 10 days. They have said DLM is still active but they have reduced my max delays. If the max delays get reset I gues I will have to phone them back and get it sorted once DLM is finished (9.5 days and counting).

Its actually pretty poor that they only let you cancel your subscription within the first 8 days but DLM takes 10 so you dont know what kind of connection you will have until its too late.

As for the filtered faceplates, after reading this forum I bought one last week before sky became active. I fitted it and rewired so that my pc phone socket was adsl only and my connection rate dropped slightly! I removed it after that and its sitting in a drawer. I may fit it again now that I have sky.

They didnt say very much about it other than it takes 10 days to run and they can restart it at any point if you want them to.

Well if Sky have not given too much info, I would leave your router on for the 10 days just in case their DLM sees re-syncs as instablity and starts to alter your line performance unnecessarly

My router is on 24/7 anyway to support my squeeze network but thanks for the info. Been using my internet all day and no drop outs so far so looking good. Had even intended to ditch the sky router in favour of my DG834N but may just leave it as it seems to be doing well at the moment.

I was talking about my connection and not my actual download rate. I am connecting at 3072.

Here is my test at speedtest.net. Sorry, dont know how to insert actual picture of it.
