Migrated from Virgin Media

Got migrated yesterday from virgin media, pings over there were terrible, 80-100ms at pretty much all times of the day, even at 3am. Download speeds of 30kb/s, crazy throttling of ports that made some games unplayable (some TF2 ones if any of you are gamers).

Finally got onto Sky Connect and wow - its how a connection should be. 25ms at ALL times and a respectable download speed of 500-600kb/s. Even at peak times It's funny because I know others on sky and their pings are 70ish. So I was expecting that and lots of work trying to get max delays reduced...but it doesn't seem necessary!

So, i'm very happy with the quality of the connection, and so good for the price. Thanks Sky

Oh and some stats for those interested:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7616 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 15.0 db 9.0 db
Noise Margin 11.6 db 24.0 db

*bounces away*

Welcome to the forums

Its good to hear nice story's once in a while.

just a quick note of caution, as you know, connect is a rebranded BT product.
If/when you do get put onto sky's system you may well have to look into the max delays to get decent pings, but thats just something to consider closer to when you are moved over.

Re: Migrated from Virgin Media

Im glad someone else has had a good experiance since moving from virgin media. Im looking to move in a few weeks when im back off holiday. Virgin have been useless with sorting out slow downloads even on a stable 7.4mbps line. I dont get above 250kbps downloads even off peak, im lucky if it will hit 100kbps most of the time. Pages take ages to load etc and all virgin say is- its your phone line, extension, anti virus, spyware, etc etc. When they finally did some proper tests it turned out it was their equipment in the exchange that was to blame. They tested it via bt's line in the exchange and it worked fine (700kbps d/loads) but went back to 70kbps when on their line. They said bt wont log a problem as i can get 700kbps so they dont know what is going on when i was back on their equipment. Easy i told them, its nothing to do with my equipment as they kept telling me, its just been proven to be your equipment at fault. They eventually sorted it out and it lasted a few weeks then its back to slow speeds again. I cant wait to get rid of them.

Re: Migrated from Virgin Media

Must admit I too had a smooth transition (as far as Sky is concerned) from Virgin. I've been arguing the **** over the final balance with Virgin as I've sent a cheque for the small sum which they claimed that they had lost, and wanted me to pay it again, but I waited and hey prestoe received a final bill a few days later showing a zero balance. If I had paid it twice i would still be trying to recover the overpayment now !

It was this lack of service, the over priced product and the fact that their billing policies produced 5 pages of mostly blank sheets so i had no idea of what calls i made etc. Since being with BT I can now view all calls on-line, thus keeping a check on my spending. Added to the saving on the BB of £15 per month, and the fact its 4 times as fast as the package Virgin was providing (I transferred four months after been promised the free virgin 10MB upgrade as they never delivered !)

So now I have a fast BB service, excellent telephone provider and I've saved a fair bit of money in the process - one happy bunny

Re: Migrated from Virgin Media

Another thumbs up from a ex-virgin media customer of 10+ years. Should note I was on their cable products not ADSL

So much better on sky, wasn't expecting it to be so good but damn i'm impressed.

Pings are nice 180 - 210 to west coast american servers, 960kb/s download speed (got to ring sky as a guy says i'm capped in another post i've made on here), Websites seem to load a lot quicker (not sure if this is placebo) but it feels so much quicker than my Virgin connection & the customer service was just a complete & utter joke on Virgin!

Overall I'm really impressed, Keep up the good work Sky!

haha sorry I didn't notice the post was from so long ago, thankfully i'm not on the sky connect, The limits on the packages from Virgin are a farce, sometimes you don't even get near the limits & still get throttled!
