The good, the bad and the better
Hello Chaps, I have an upto 8M broadband sky account, but I only have a 3.5M phone line, and although I am only 2 miles from the exchange by road and maybe only 1.5 miles, by line of sight i have slow access.
I monitor my line speed and I have been down to .73 Mbps which is not a lot and I have peaked at 2.4Mbps but only on 3 occasions, my average is about 1.5
I have moved my router closer to my only phone inlet and gained a bit of speed with the router stating 1.9Mbps.
I do have another problem which is that the original phone inlet, marked PO (post office) has two cables twisted together and wrapped in brown sticky tape it is to be replaced. and updated.
I have now updated my netgear firmware "thank you to SKY USER for the info" and my router is now reporting 2.91Mbps and the SU meter reads 2.48Mbps.
So thats me, any informtion about tweaking / the best master filter sockets etc would be good.
Thanks

Re: The good, the bad and the better
After editing your profile you could post your router stats as you are connected now and a further set from the test socket.

Re: The good, the bad and the better
Thank you for the link and in test socket info, unfortunately I do not have a BT socket, as originally posted I have a wire coming out of the back of a patress cover that is marked "PO"
I did ask ofcom about the ownership of this connection and therefore the legality of changing it, but as yet they have not replied.
