Should any electrician be able to do this?

Ive done numerous installation where the perosn cays to me PC World said i soud get this 2m ADSL belkin cable for max speed for £20, and i think, you idiots!

Yes and no, some will and some will cowar at the thought of phone cables and ethernet, they shouldnt really as it is fairly basic wiring. one tip is to set up call forwarding to a mobile BEFORE you start then that way no missed calls!

Re: Rewired my house!

Hi nik.
Domestic phone wiring is not complex. It follows a set layout and colour code. Just goggle "telephone wiring" and there is loads of info and nice diagrams.
Telephone systems are all like this, the real complex stuff is kept well out of the way in nice warm exchanges

First thing to do is to make a plan of where you want the sockets to be. This will give you an idea of how much cable you need.

Re: Rewired my house!

Cool Well Ill get on the phone to my friend and my uncle, both electricians so chances are one of them will do it.

And I think, most the rooms already have phone sockets, its just a question of the speed to the one in the study where the router is thats the main problem.

Re: Rewired my house!

Hi Nik.
Was the phone wiring done when the house was built? If so then this is the source of your problem. Electricians tend to use any old reel ends when it comes to wiring phones, and while this may be o.k for voice, it is no good at all for BB.
The easy way round this is to use a filter faceplate at the master and run a new extension for the router, or better still, put the router next to the master.

Re: Rewired my house!

Just came acros this: En-Twyn's En-Compass incorporates Powerline into socket - Engadget and thought: why hasn't anyone done this yet and why con't I have one yet, I would replace a few of my sockets with them and get power and eternet at once, create a fast network without slow wireless or ripping up walls, genius
