Moved from AOL
Just wanted to share my experience moving from AOL to SKY BB.
I must admit, I was expecting a delay in getting my MAC code, but AOL sent an email within 24hrs, then I contacted SKY about the MAX package. Great value for £10, up to 16mb when I had been paying this to AOL for up to 8mb (normally getting around 1.8mb).
The modem, Netgear DG934G, arrived shortly after, and activation took place on the day stated in the letter from SKY. All this was within a timeframe of just over a week.
I only live 138mtrs as the crow flies from my exchange, but was regularly getting less than 2mb, AOL help just kept telling me it was the quality of the line but no tests I did seemed to support this.
Since joining SKY my speeds are waaaay up!
This is the latest stats from my router -
Connection DL 16379 UL 764
Attenuation DL 14db UL 12db
Noise DL 11db UL 8db
Speed tests on both Speedtest.net & Thinkbroadband show between 12.5 & 14.5mb. Very happy.
Only thing I've found, I have a DG834G which I bought myself to use on AOL (had been using the Thompson 330 modem) to give me wireless in the home, and used to allow my daughter to connect in her bedroom, but the router from SKY seems to have a problem providing a high enough signal as her connection keeps dropping. I'll look through these forums to see if I can find a solution, as it looks like a great source of info from what I've seen so far.
I just can't believe the difference. Thanks SKY.

Re: Moved from AOL
Try changing channels on the router, it often helps, especialy if you can see other wireless networks in your area.

Re: Moved from AOL
I am changing over tomorrow from AOL as well.
I am across the road from my exchange and my line Au is 6 and my noise is around 12db.
But my top speed is only around 4mb to 5mb.
Most of the time its around 1.5mb.
And youtube never works.

I'll give this a try as we can see 2 other networks from our neighbours.

Try usin a N router that conects via ethernet to the sky one (non-ADSL router), such as the apple airport extreme (yes, it works with pc's) or get a this: Amazon.co.uk: Netgear WGXB102 54 Mbps Wall-Plugged Wireless Range Extender
plug one end in the ether net at the sky router and the other end near the second pc and it should fix it,
EDIT:
also look at this: Amazon.co.uk: Belkin Wireless G Universal Range Extender: Electronics & Photo just place it half way between the router and the second PC and it will re broadcast the signal to her PC
here is a page describing what to do Boost your Wi-Fi with a repeater - Weekend Project - Extend your Wi-Fi-CNet

Re: Moved from AOL
If your activation date is today then its anytime today. All you are waiting on is BT to send an engineer into the exchange.

Re: Moved from AOL
If its asking for a user name and password without you doing anything then its not authenticated itself against the sky servers yet. If you are logging in to 192.168.0.1 then the user name is admin and password sky.
