Woo Hoo!!
I have been a Virgin/NTL customer since NTL first buried cables under the ground. I remember the first time I ran up my cable connection, I connected to a game server and got an 6ms ping. Not amazed? You should be when I tell you the server was in Norway. Alas things have changed since then. The cost hasn't come down yet the ping has gone up, many times. Alas I am 4.5 miles away from my exchange, so ADSL was not really an option. Well, only a 500Kbps option. Eventually I decided to try the free Sky service and to use it as a backup. When the Sky 2Mbps connection was all up and working, I was surprised to find that in fact it was running at 2Mbps, and the router proudly claimed that it should work at up to 5.2Mbs. I saved myself a few quid by downgrading my Virgin service to 2Mbps, increasing the Sky to 5Mbps ( Mid ), and using a load balancer get 7Mbs with failover to boot!! Brilliant!! Extremely pleased.
