Evening all,
tested router (Sagem) around 5 this evening and the orange light came on
This turned to green fairly quickly and so onwards we went.
Moved the router to it's final location, unplugged network cable from a safecom router (fed from nthell modem), plugged in to new router, let it find it's feet and connected
Looked for stats on the router and at first could only see it was synching at 15323/764.
Did a speed test at thinkbroadband but only got a d/l speed of 3.8mb and .61mb upload - disappointed!!
Did some more searching, changed router password to something a bit more sensible, found some logs that showed in the 6 mins since the router had been booted there were 4 intrusion attempts (why would anyone want to connect to the internet without a router)
Anyway, a wander round skyuser looking for info that might explain slow speeds and thought stuff, lets test it proper like.
Went to speedtest.net and got this:
Which made me happier

I then downloaded a newsgroup file, approx. 765mb in about 8 mins and an average speed of 1600 KB/s
With these figures:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15323 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 19.0 db 8.4 db
Noise Margin 9.9 db 16.5 db
VM also sent me a sorry to see you go letter, and a nice gimmicky mask to "help me sleep on it", it being my decision to cancel.
As if I'm going to change my mind now - I only got 478KB/s if I downloaded after midnight, and if i was to download something at 6.25 in the evening it would only be at about 232KB/s if a full moon, Pisces was rising and the kids did everything asked of them first time, otherwise less than 60KB!!
So, from me so far it's a huge thumbs up

to Sky.
Install of the TV on Sunday was spot on, Dave the engineer was everything you expect of a visitor to your home - on time, polite, considerate, amenable and above all, professional.
If it all stays like this (apart from the arguments about the cartoons with Lucifer and Beelzebub) then I apologise now for badmouthing Sky in the past!!
