should I switch to sky?

im with virgin media: phone+tv+2mb broadband (may be upgraded free to 4mb-no time period given)
paying too much so i can change my package with virgin media but have to have new contract for 12 months even if i move house and cant cancel
or join sky and get same but may get free 2mb broadband (slightly more cost than virgin media) or 16mb broadband (sky cant tell me if i can get this untill i have a bt line )
Question is, is the broadband any good?
It is not worth changing if the broadband or support is poor.....so.......
What is the feeling out there?
thanks

Re: should I switch to sky?

I was also with virgin/ntl broadband/phone/tv till 6 months ago and switched everything to sky ' cause I was fed up with losing tv channel after channel with virgin and my broadband was costing £25 a month on it's own. I now pay exactly the same (inc BT line rental) for a far superior service. If you switch to sky the sky+ box is a must have - best invention since the wheel. One word of caution though my Broadband is maxi 16mb but it is highly unlikely you will ever achieve anything like that 'cause its dependant upon your BT ine.

Re: should I switch to sky?

Hi mate, can only speak form my experiences, but i have had no probs with Sky BB. am on the mid package with downloads speeds of up to 8mb, though i can acheive 5 mb its ok for me and my uses. It ceratainly represents good vfm as with the tv package it costs me only £5 per month with a 40gb usage limit which is more than adequate. I wholly endorse the views of the sky+ box, it is brilliant( so my partner says) as i never get to use it lol. You will also have tha added bonus of us helping you if you incur any problems, all free of charge. What more could you ask for????

Re: should I switch to sky?

Same could be said of most of ip broadband providers tho. Problem is they dont all have a forum in order to discuss the problems. Overall i think you will find that it is only a small minority out of the thousand suscribers that have these problems.

Re: should i switch

if you have a package from virgin that you are happy with and is cheaper than the sky package then i would stay as you are,
i think sky bb is ok and i also like the tv side. At the moment if virgin offered the same i would not bother moving (grass always seem greener on the other side until there is a problem and then it all turns brown)

Re: should I switch to sky?

well I've been with Sky for a year and I'm switching to Virgin - at a cheaper rate- and with Setanta thrown in. It probably won't be a perfect experience, but the lousy broadband connection speeds I've been experiencing let Skye down - and, if I get 2-3mb minimum at times, that's still better than what I have been getting. I reckon that, if you're getting a good speed Sky is probably better. If not, try Virgin for a year.
The point is that Sky has now got a competitor and that's good for us all....
