I work for Openreach as a faultsman. I can get B.B up to 8M free. I was getting this upto October of last year, when all of a sudden i could only get 512k download speeds. Being used to the full 8M speed i tested my line and even changed it all the way back to the exchange. Still 512k. I started to ask questions and got nowere. Was told it was contention, but being a faultsman for 17 years i knew better, this was not contention but traffic shaping! I eventually got to talk to the top broadband person i could find and this person told me that B.T broadband is over subscribed and everyones line will be affected. I asked, what aboute looking after your own? Answer, nothing to do with us, its all down to Bangalor. That realy got me wound up. And so i asked for my Mac code off B.T. Gave Sky my Mac code and waited. Next i get a letter saying ( invalid Mac code). So this went on for two months and two mac codes later i eventially get connected to Sky B.B up to 16M.
Best thing I have ever done!

I knew i was being connected on the 21/9/07 as per letter from Sky, I had recieved my router and Sky username and password along with the router over a month previous. My internet light went off on my b.t. voyager so then i got excited cos i knew it was hapening. Swapped the router over and hey presto,

Full 16M and Solid as a rock.
15323 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 18.5 db 11.3 db
Noise Margin 15.2 db 13.0 db
From 1/2 a meg to 16M for a tenner. Worth every penny. The other thing is, my snr has gone up, in other words i have a better line now with sky than with b.t

The only thing i have done to the router is unchecked the upnp box and that was as easy as turning the light off. I used the installation c.d. from sky and found that it changed my browser settings slightly and i could not get into Hotmail, so i did a system restore to the day before i used the c.d and everything was back to normal. To sum it all up

well pleased
