Sky Player keeps Buffering on Live TV

      Can someone help me please!!

Whilst watching Live TV on sky Player, it buffers every 10 seconds or so, despite me putting it onto the Low quality setting.

I've run a Broadband speed check, and my speeds are more than sufficient to be able to receive the pictures properly (ISP is BT). I've updated the firmware in my router (Netgear DG834G v2), I removed the `Kontiki' thing!

I'm getting very frustrated and hopefully it's something fairly straightforward that one of you helpful types on here could help me with

It is nearly always a speed issue

      Thanks for the reply Smithy

When you say it's a speed issue, that's down to my ISP then and not much I can do about it??

Yes usually. You need a steady speed to keep the stream going, if the speed is up & down then the player will need to buffer to catch up.

What ISP are you on and what speed do you get on this sites speedtester?

BT from the post at the start. If so it could be congestion causing buffering or something on the PC hitting bandwidth etc.

Re: Sky Player keeps Buffering on Live TV

The speed you get on the internet isn't constant by any means. You'll get different speeds for different websites depending on exactly where your traffic is getting routed. Even if you have a fast connection your traffic can't go faster than the slowest link between you and the server the Sky data is coming from.

It could also be that your ISP is slowing down the traffic as part of it's 'Acceptable Usage' policy. ISP's often limit the amount of bandwidth each person gets at peak times when there are lots of people connected at once. Streaming shows will be susceptible to this as someone else has already mentioned. Try watching at off-peak times (not between 6pm and midnight) and see if the buffering goes away.

But I do remember reading in a different post that someone else who was having trouble with constant buffering solved it by re-installing Silverlight. Check this posting...

Re: Sky Player keeps Buffering on Live TV

      Can anybody help me?

I'm getting buffering problems for a split second maybe every 30 or so seconds - LOW, MEDIUM or HIGH - doesn't seem to matter.

It is a wireless laptop connection and Sky Player is the only network thing running on it at the time.

Running a speedtest on the network from the laptop shows download speeds between 48-52mbps on a suitable server - so it is not a network speed issue.

It is only Sky Player that has these buffering problems - any other live stream is fine.

It isn't a fix, but what you could do is set the program going on the sky player then pause it, then come back to it once it has downloaded enough of the content to not have to buffer.
Connected at 13Mbps on sky unlimited

I'll give that a go once I'm back to the laptop.

Your fault may be the wireless, are you using Vista by any chance?

Have you tried with a wire?
