Sky Email setup and settings

If you call Sky tier 1 they will always tell you tools.sky.com as that is the official server set for the sky mail system.

Are we sticking with these changes to pop/smtp googlemail, or are SKY going to advise changing back to pop/smtp tools.sky ?
I'm sue I posted a message to my SKY about this a few days ago. Still good job I did not hold my breath, waiting for their response

I changed back to "tools" as soon as I was able and have had no problems since. It is up to you really, I don't suppose Sky have a view.

Have you tried going back to the old settings?

I have tried all the settings as advised, yet cannot get windows mail to work!

Thank you for the very clear instructions and even although I was using Outlook 2007 I was successful in setting up my Outlook to access my Sky emails. Fantastic!

Hello everyone

I too, had the same problems but have just had it resolved.

I am using Windows Vista and Windows Live Mail and have my own domain name which I own. My problem was I could still receive but could not send. (kept getting login message requesting username and password for smtp.tools.sky.com outgoing mail server).

I have changed all the settings as described (will list them below) BUT after 50 minutes on the telephone - the technician did the following:-

1) Syncronised my USERNAME (i.e; without the @sky.com) with the google mail server (has to be done first)

THEN

2) Advised me to go to www.sky.com/unlock and unlock my USERNAME (again no @sky.com) and this was then successful.

She did TRY to get me to unlock my username BEFORE she syncronised BUT it DID NOT WORK.

My settings are as follows:-

Incoming mail (NO CHANGES)

Outgoing mail

smtp.tools.sky.com
tick my server requires authentication
enter your @sky.com email address and password

port 465
server requires a secure connection (ssl)

I have also logged into my sky mail inbox, gone into settings and added my email address under Accounts (also set it as default). This does still say sent by XYZ@sky.com on behalf of MYDOMAIN.co.uk BUT I am able to send emails and this is all I needed!

If you have done everything as I have above and it still isn't working the technician suggested you ring up and explain this and just ask them to do the sync and then you can carry out the unlock. This will save everyone a good 45 minutes on the telephone - if you explain this, you might be greeted with a more positive response! The technician might even thank you.... (well, we'll see...).

See Sky Broadband - Configure POP3 or IMAP with another email program for the latest settings.

Edit: Having checked through this post and the tutorials I can't see how you got the old name for the POP server, perhaps if you could p.m. NewsreadeR with the details he could correct it for the future.
