Re: Sky Email setup and settings

Thanks Alan B - have got one of my domains working as my SMTP now... seems odd sky dont offer it... but as i get to know more about sky it just seems to get a more and more service offering! lol

Does anyone know what the SKY DNS servers are for web browsing? My iMac on Leopard has crap connectivity with the sky wireless router, and its thought that is due to DNS resolve issues, wondered if i could force the airport to connect to the correct ones? any ideas?

cheers

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

Sky don't allow it as it prevents spammers from using it. As for their DNS settings, it is better if you use the Open DNS ones as they are much more reliable unlike the Sky ones that seem to block access to various sites from time to time.

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

Hi, becuse of a major system problem I needed to re-install WinXP. I am now at the stage of getting my email working via Outlook 2003. It was working OK before the crash! I have followed the EMail account setup information provided at the begining of this thread but when I press the Test Account Settings I get green ticks for the first four boxes but it fails the Send Test Email with an "Unable to send test message. Please verify E-mail address" error. The net result is that I can receive emails but cant send them.
Any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks!

Send a message via MSN to IAmNotTheEnemy
Re: Sky Email setup and settings

you won't receive the test message anyway - it'll sit on the portal...

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

What SMTP settings are you using? Should be smtp.tools.sky.com with SSL enabled and port 465 in use. Also your user name should be your entire email address.
What happens if you Send/ Receive? Do you get any errors?

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

Many thanks for your quick replies!
IAmNotTheEnemy - When I set up my email account when I first received Sky broadband I did receive test messages back - is there any reason why they wont now?
PaulSky - I have used smtp.tools.sky.com (and smtp.gmail.com) with SSL enabled port 465. I am also using my entire email address for the User Name.
When I try to send an email I get - Sending Report Error 0x8004210B The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending SMTP server.

Any more thoughts?

Exclamation Re: Sky Email setup and settings

I am absolutely fed up with trying to add an email address for my granddaughter
It is now 6 weeks since i first tried to do it, and despite much to and froing to unlock, reset, retry and god knows what, i am no nearer a resolution.
I don't find the sky help any help whatsoever, and am seriously considering changing away from sky.

Any so called help messages simply tell me to do what i've done about a hundred times before with no success.

What's the matter with this site, doesn't it understand simple English?

I cannot get a second email address to work on my account, never mind the 10 it says i can have!!

I only want to get this 2nd address to work.
