      Update your email application today

      Anyone else received this email:
      Update your email application today

We’ve noticed that you may be accessing your Sky.com email on your mobile, tablet or other device using an out-of-date version of an email application such as Apple Mail, Outlook or Windows Live Mail.

To ensure a better and more consistent experience for all our customers, out-of-date versions of these email applications will no longer be supported by Sky.com email from 14/11/2019.

This means you will need to update your email application to the latest version, which will include new features, enhanced security standards and better usability.

If you decide not to update your email application, you will no longer be able to access your Sky.com email using this method from 14/11/2019.

However, you will still be able to access your Sky.com email via Sky.com

To verify this email and get all the help you need, please head to sky.com and click on the section titled ‘Help accessing Sky mails via email apps’ on the homepage.

Please note you do not need to reset or change your password for your Sky.com email address.

      Kind regards,

      Sky
Anyone know what the problem is?
I'm using Thunderbird and afaik it's the latest version.
I hope it doesn't mean that pop3 support is being pulled.

      The official announcement:
      https://www.sky.com/help/articles/pr...your-email-app

However there are no other details on the official forum so it all a bit guesswork at the moment.

It would appear they are going to enforce Open Authentication (OAuth) as the authentication method.

I am hoping that any apps that have had the 16 digit password applied will continue to work, but I guess we will need to wait until it happens before we know for sure.

Unfortunately Sky have never been good at keeping us informed.

Re: Update your email application today

      I received one yesterday.

I'm now in the long process of tidying up a few things so that I can transition to a new email client.

      It's a royal PITA.

Re: Update your email application today

Well it's not the 14th yet and my Sky email is fine but my other half's email has died. It is fine if logging in via the Sky website but just hangs for about a minute using Thunderbird before coming up with auth failure.
I don't see how it can be a problem with Thunderbird as openssl gives similar results:
      openssl s_client -connect pop.tools.sky.com:995
      ---
      +OK Hello from jpop-0.1
      user myskyid@sky.com
      +OK Password required.
      pass +++++++++
+OK Maildrop ready, (JPOP server ready).
      list
      +OK 0 message(s) (0 octets).
      .
      quit
      +OK Server signing off.
      read:errno=0
      against:
      openssl s_client -connect pop.tools.sky.com:995
      ---
      +OK Hello from jpop-0.1
      user otherid@sky.com
      +OK Password required.
      pass +++++++++
-ERR [SYS/TEMP] Server error - Please try again later.
      closed
Sky say that there is nothing wrong with the email account.
      Anyone got any ideas?

Re: Update your email application today

Sadly the only option appears to be to start using a different email client. I'm not happy about this either.

Re: Update your email application today

Strangely enough I haven't yet had any trouble accessing Sky email with Thunderbird (v68.2.2) on Win 10 or even with Mailwasher (v7.7). I haven't had to follow the 16-digit password route either. Famous last words, possibly.

On the account that does not work try generating and using with it, a 16 digit password and using this password instead of whatever one you usually use.

Re: Update your email application today

Over on the official forum it has been confirmed that older apps will continue to work if you use the 16 digit generated password.

Re: Update your email application today

Ok, one of my sky email addresses started playing up last night. I've just run the generator and it's now working.

You will need to be logged into your Sky account for this to work correctly.

      https://www.sky.com/sky-yahoo-mail/m...s?client=email

You will need to replace the existing password, which still remains valid on Sky.com, with this new 16 character password in your mail app.

      Good luck!
