Sending work email when connected to Sky WiFi

Firstly, apologies for the dumb thread title. I really couldn't think of anything better!

I have an employee who would like to send and receive work email from home. We've sorted her out with a work email, she uses Windows Live Mail 2012 and I've set up her personal laptop so she can send and receive from it when she is in the office (incoming: POP3 server: mail.mybusiness.co.uk outgoing: SMTP server: mailhost.zen(our ISP).co.uk) and it works perfectly. As she intends to use the laptop at home using her own Sky connection I told her she'd have to find out Sky's SMTP settings and enter them in place of the Zen ones. She'll be able to receive but not send until she does that.

Now, she's Googled and Googled all to no avail and she's tried asking Sky and they've said they can't help and it's our (the business) problem. So can anyone offer any advice? As expected she can receive but not send. When I set up WLM on PCs in the office I just enter Zen's SMTP settings and away you go. What's the problem with Sky?

      Thank you in advance.

Re: Sending work email when connected to Sky WiFi

Using sky/yahoo's SMTP servers with a 3rd party address is complicated at best, and made even more difficult at the moment as the function to add the alternate address appears to be broken.

However Zen appear to allow authenticated access from any ISP.
      From their help page:
"Zen Internet allow you to use e-mail from any connection * using secure Authenticated SMTP and POP3; ideal if you are travelling and need to access e-mail from your Laptop or other portable computer. The setting will appear as TLS, SSL or Secure access in your e-mail client (e.g. Outlook/Mac Mail) and will use your Zen e-mail address as the username, along with the corresponding e-mail password."

It will be much more reliable than the sky/yahoo server for sure.

      Here is the help page.

      Agreed.

Sky IMAP services are also suffering at the moment.

Tom, the "Add account" button is missing at the moment, but the account can still be added using basic mode.

Hi Moleman, maybe you could advise the poster how to do it manually. Just another indication of how 'good' Sky mail is.

If he can't get it to work with Zen then I will.

Re: Sending work email when connected to Sky WiFi

Thank you very much to both of you.

So in fact she/we could use adjusted Zen settings rather than those of whichever ISP we're currently connected too? In her case Sky.

I will look into this tomorrow. Didn't even occur to me to look at Zen.

I think this is how you do it now via Sky Email:

Settings > Writing Email > Add send-only address > Verify.

I have tried adding it there but haven't managed to actually get it to send the emails. They just seem to disappear into the ether.
Still need to do some more testing.

      Update:

Well I tried again and now address's added as Alan says are sending via the SMTP server O.K.
Think it must have been finger trouble when I tried before

So no need to use basic mode.
