      Adverts in Sky/Yahoo Mail

Never had this problem before but when I and my wife logged into our Sky/Yahoo Mail account there were two emails listed but there was no box to the left of them to tick and then delete. If I click on the message either left or right mouse click it just opens the message in a new tab. There is a $ symbol at the side of the message.

Both messages were adverts, one for a funeral policy and the other for a dating agency, neither of which we need, my wife tells me we are happily married!!!

When I deleted the message below these on my account they disappeared into the Trash folder but there are no emails in my wife's account she wishes to delete at the moment.

Can any of you very technical people help me in finding a way to get rid/stop these emails.

      Derek

I'd be very worried. Your wife may tell you that you are happilly married but it is suspicious that the mails involved pertain to funeral policies and dating agencies, either on its own is not suspicious, but together... Ooh err...

Hope you get it sorted, I don't use Sky mail but could not resist replying.

      Re: Adverts in Sky/Yahoo Mail

If I were a suspicious person I might just check to see if there was a secret life insurance policy that had recently been taken out.

Seriously though, Yahoo! Mail (the service which Sky uses) has been pushing ads in the top row for some time now. I tend to use an email client on my laptop so don't often notice them. However when I use the Yahoo! Mail app on my phone to access my sky . com emails, I do see them.

I have a couple of sky . com email addresses. Looking just now and one did have the ad, the other didn't.

      Re: Adverts in Sky/Yahoo Mail

Many thanks for your humorous comments Marjohn56, a big black car stopped outside our house today as I was drinking a cup of tea which had a slight bitter taste and had me worried!!!!!

I did a bit of a search on Google and came across a question from someone using Btinternet who had a similar problem and the answer given was to click on the cog at the top right hand corner of the screen when in webmail and select settings then unclick full features and click on Basic and that should work.

I did as above and no more adverts, lets see if it causes any other problems.

If you don't want to use basic but want the adverts blocked then just install adblock plus as I use this and don't see these adverts unless I disable it for sky email.

      Re: Adverts in Sky/Yahoo Mail

We had Adblock installed but unfortunately we have taken up Microsoft offer of a free upgrade to Windows 10 and the current version of Adblock will not work with it. I understand an updated version is due for release in October. Unless you have a way of using it in Windows 10! It would be appreciated if you could assist with this.

Adblock+ will work with IE11, Chrome and Firefox. It will not work with the Edge built into Win 10. If you are using Edge you will have to wait until an app is written for it. I don't use it as there are so few add-ons available.

You can get Firefox for Win 10 here https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/channel/#firefox

and Thunderbird email client here https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/thunderbird/

      Re: Adverts in Sky/Yahoo Mail

Through the sky yahoo email settings you can change the format of the emails so that there is a preview window, if you set this to show on the right hand side then the adds also disappear without using any kind of add blocking software.

Hi Hedgehog1979 it is not the Adverts at the side but those which have started appearing in the message list.

Since the ads are inappropriate for you, have you or your wife considered contacting Sky directly?
