      Freeserve POP3 email through Sky

A friend at work is having a few problems with his Freeserve email and Sky BB. Hopefully, with help from the forum, I can get him back up and running.

*Note* My friend has never setup/used his Sky.com email since migrating to Sky and has solely been using his existing Freeserve account.

      The situation so far:

      1) Until Sky changed there email settings, he had been using the old Freeserve settings to send/receive email via Sky BB using Outlook Express. Like many others it appears he was simply unaware of any changes made by Sky and thus became caught out after the changes.

      2) In an attempt to resolve his problems he contacted Sky support and was given the Outlook Express settings for Sky's own email address. As he had never setup his Sky address my friend ended up changing both the incoming and outgoing Outlook Express settings for his Freeserve email account. Obviously at this point he can no longer receive emails as the Freeserve details have been removed.

Please can somebody list the correct settings for receiving Freeserve email via Sky.
His Freeserve email was like: name@name.freeserve.co.uk - name + name were identical.

Can I also confirm that sending email through Outlook Express would need to be done through Sky's new SMTP settings as listed below:

      Server: smtp.tools.sky.com
      Port: 465
      Security: ‘Use Authentication’ + ‘SSL’
      Username/Password: His Sky.com email address/password (username@sky.com)

      ***
      Thanks in advance.

Re: Freeserve POP3 email through Sky

Hi Zico, I'm still using Freeserve on OE, these are the settings:
      servers:
      Incoming Mail (POP3): pop.freeserve.com
      Outgoing Mail (SMTP): smtp.tools.sky.com
      Incoming Mail Server:
      Account Name: name.freeserve.co.uk
      Password: Freeserve Password
      Outgoing Mail Server:
      Tick My server requires authentication
Click settings Button and select logon using: Enter Sky Account Name & Password

      Advanced:
      Outgoing Mail (SMTP): 465
Tick this server requires secure connection (SSL)
      Incoming Mail (POP3): 110
Seems to work ok for me.

The way I did it with my yahoo mail was to Log into you sky Email through the mysky.sky.com site. Click on Mail Steeings at the top. Then Accounts. There you should be able to Add another email address. Just fill in your details for your freeserve or what ever then sky will check your emails from that address then forward them to you outlook express.

Thanks Kidd. I'll try sending those settings to my friend to try.

We tried this on Friday. After he entered his Freeserve email address and went through to the next stage to enter his password etc. the Sky/Google page had come up with a Freeserve mail server address but at the same time was complaining of a DNS issue with it.

I tried the same Add Account with my own BT internet email to see what happened. On the same stage it had the correct mail server already selected along with 3 or 4 other servers to choose from. I can only presume that the Sky/Google system didn't have the correct Freeserve mail settings or Freeserves mail server was acting up at the time. Perhaps I can try this again when he's back in work after the half term.
