Smile Solved non-Sky email address re outgoing emails

This worked for me using outlook but I cannot guarantee it works for all:
Email accounts:
Your name: Put in name you have chosen under General in "more settings"
Email Address: Put in your non-Sky email address
Incoming mail server (POP3): put in your non-Sky server: eg. mail.onetel.com
Outgoing (SMTP): smtp.tools.sky.com
Logon Information:
User name: Put in your non-Sky email user ID
Password: Put in your non-Sky email password
More settings:
Outgoing Server: Tick "my outgoing server requires authentication"
Complete log on:
Put in your full sky email address
Password: Put in your Sky email password
Tick "log on....(SPA)
Advanced:
Incoming POP Server:110 (at least that's what it is for onetel)
Outgoing SMTP: 465
Tick: this server requires........(SSL)
Hit OK
test email account and hopefully everything will work.
If you use Norton Security, your incoming emails will still get scanned but your outgoing emails don't seem to any longer. I haven't twigged how to do this yet but I intend to look at it later.
good luck; it took me a day and a half to figure the above out!!

Are you struggling to send or receive mail or both?

Re: Solved non-Sky email address re outgoing emails

does this really work?

If you check what your received email looks like it will show something like:

Steve Allen<steve@yyy.co.uk on behalf of steve.yyy@sky.com>

instead of

Steve Allen<steve@yyy.co.uk>

It does indeed Steve, not noticed that!

For example, I have sent an email from my Wanadoo addy to my Tesco addy.

It sends fine but when I receive it at the Tesco addy, it says it is from my Sky addy.

Why???

Re: Solved non-Sky email address re outgoing emails

it's the way the googlemail works. It ensures that the google brand (and sky in this case) is still promoted as you are using their server. No way around it i'm afraid, so i've bought a 1and1.co.uk email account to go with my domain name (£0.65pm).

Hope someone with far more intelligence than me can work out a way round it!
