Exclamation POP,SMTP help.

Hi Guys,
Have until now had no end of problems with the e-mail, both web based and Outlook. I have just found a 'workaround' for the Outlook and web settings.
This should help users who have been able to create and use other addresses(or not). If you can't get access to your webmail account, 'portlet not available' etc. log into MY PROFILE account on SKYs' main web site and just go into the EDIT PROFILE page. Just put in your password/s (no need to alter them, or anything on the page) and submit your 'altered' profile.
You should then be able to gain access both for webmail AND Outlook (I use pop.sky.com & smtp.sky.com).
I hope this is of help to anyone who is frustrated by it all.

Great site guys, keep it up.

Pete.

Welcome to the site Pete

Well I tried your suggestion and it never works as it will not allow you to use the same password

Hi again,
Seems as though you're only allowed to do this the once. Tried again this morning to try and do a pictorial type 'tutorial', but it wouldn't accept password/s again. Maybe changing passwords anyway will kick it into action ?

Pete.

Nope I have spoken to TS again this morning to see whats whats and it would seem that even though some users are able to access the portal the bulk are not due to a problem with whatever it is they say to automate the process and its being worked on, so if you can access the email via an email client just carry on with that.

Re: POP,SMTP help.

Hi All, My names George. I'm new to skyuser but have come here due to frustration of Sky Tehcnical Support.

My wife has an E Mail account in Poland, domain Wirtualna Polska - www.wp.pl, hence here E Mail address ends in *******@wp.pl.

The issue is, before moving to Sky she could use outlook express to send and recieve E Mails, however since comming to Sky she cant.

There's an error message, mentioning spam policy / http error etc.

Talking to her Polish ISP she say's that the problem lies with the ISP we use. Contacting Sky they don't give a care in the world cause were not using the sky.com E Mail address,

Has anyone heard of any problems like this or is it just us, don't worry about replying with anti virus / firewall stuff, caus Iv'e checked all that out closely.

I would be grateful for any advice / tips.

Kind Regards

George.

Re: POP,SMTP help.

What exactly is the problem, can she receive her mail or perhaps she can't send. What is the error message ?

Re: POP,SMTP help.

Hi Alan B,
She has no problem recieving mail, it's just when she sends it through her Polish website with the correct pop3 smtp settings for that site.

The error message I'm not sure about, caus she's not home from work yet and I don't know her password

Really sorry will try to be more specific later.

All I know is that it said DNS Error / Made reference to a spam policy and started with a few 000

Sorry Iv'e got a memory like a, hmmm, hmmm, hmmm, ohh yeah Sieve

Re: POP,SMTP help.

you must send mail using the sky smtp server.

I've read all your posts, but they lack information for us to be able to help.

Go into the setting and change the outgoing server to smtp.sky.com.

If that doesn't help, then post back with FULL details of all the settings and screen shots etc and exact details of the error.

Oh and by the way Sky are quite right not to help you with this particular problem and the polish isp are wrong to pass to try and claim that sky should.

Sky provide support for the services that they supply. As you are using another ISPs email service, then it's down to you to resolve (through sources like this site).
