Unhappy Outlook receives OK but sending gives error

Whatever email address I try and send to I get a message back with title

Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender

      and content

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

      **@**.com
      Unknown user

      from

      Mailer-Daemon@read3

(I have changed the returned email address in the above example)

I can login and send from Sky's gruesomely slow web portal.

Outlook's 'Test Account Settings' button works fine and all the tests pass.

Anyone got any ideas what's wrong please?

If its coming back from the server perhaps its not recognising the address or maybe the inbox is full?

no sure hopefully someone a bit more clued on the email server side can help.

can you send to that email address from another acount just to test?

I have just tried to send a test email and got the following error
      *** Sending pending mail from account 'SKY' @ 14/09/2006 09:18 ***
      Connecting to: 'smtp.sky.com'
      Connect.c[465] MailMgr.dll
Failed to send one or more pending messages.
WINSOCK Error: Connection refused. (The requested mail service is not running on the designated server. Verify the server name or contact your System Administrator).
      Connection to socket failed.

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

      tried writing to custmer services to ask about this and got this message;

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'BroadbandTechnicalSupport@BSkyB.com'. Subject 'Problems with sky broadband -unable to sign in or colect sky mail', Account: 'mark a', Server: 'smtp.virgin.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 RCPT TO:<BroadbandTechnicalSupport@BSkyB.com> Relaying not allowed - please use SMTP AUTH', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
      translations into layman's english appreciated

Re: Outlook receives OK but sending gives error

      'smtp.virgin.net'
Change that to the Sky one - smtp.sky.com

      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/view-outlook.html

Relaying means you can abuse a mail server in laymans terms, ie pretend to be someone else and send shed loads of email, to make it look like someone on a different network is sending it.
