Re: New Sky Email SMTP and POP Settings (powered by Google)

I've spent all day trying to change my default address to something approaching my old virgin.net address. No joy. Then I discover I am receiving mail from my virgin account using gmail, but I can't send using my old email address obviously. I've asked virgin, but they're no help, neither are the sky helpline. I was on dial up with virgin, what's in it for them if I continue to access my mails using sky to access virgin? Help!

Re: New Sky Email SMTP and POP Settings (powered by Google)

Can someone explain to me what needs to be set on the sky tools page for the emails to work via outlook/windows mail please.

I have set the account up as instructed and turned pop on in sky tools.

My emails seemed to come through to outlook once but now they are not?

Its all a bit odd.

Can send them fine now as well.

Paul.

Re: New Sky Email SMTP and POP Settings (powered by Google)

Hi. Have reinstalled my OS today, followed all these instructions, but when I open Outlook Express I get a dialogue box asking me to enter my username and password, which are already there. The check box "remember password" is checked but is in grey so can't be altered. Any suggestions please?

Re: New Sky Email SMTP and POP Settings (powered by Google)

Hi,

New Sky BB User here; thought I'd share my experience of Sky E-Mail with Outlook 2007 as I couldn't get it to work initially.

I could recieve e-mail through POP ok, but couldn't send, and I'm sure I had all the settings correct, however, On the Advance Tab of Account Settings, even though the the tick box for 'This server requires and encrypted connection (SSL)' was ticked, you have to make sure that the option 'Use the following encrypted connection' is set to SSL also. By default this is set to 'None' and is not mentioned in the setup. That solved that problem.

I also had an issue with e-mails stopped being collected with POP, even though it was logging in to the server OK, Outlook just wasn't downloading e-mails even though there were plenty sitting in the Inbox at Google Mail. I found that if I disabled POP colection, then re-enabled it again under the mail settings this seemed to get things moving along. I'm going to have to keep an eye on that!!!

All in all, things not too bad at the moment.

Hope this helps someone.

Pete

Re: New Sky Email SMTP and POP Settings (powered by Google)

Hi All - this is driving me mad!!

First odd thing is that additional users on my account have been set up on the new google format whereas me as the main account is still on the old style.

Anyway, my main issue is that try as I might I cannot get the additional user's account to send. I'm using Outlook 2002 and have used all the correct tick boxes, ports, etc and when I perform the test it ticks all tests apart from sending emails and I then get the message that I should verify the email address!

This is clearly correct as is the password - I know this because I can use the same details to access via the web portal!!

Has anyone got any clue about how to cure this? Please - my hair is rapidly falling out and I'm getting an earbashing as whenever there is a PC problem its my fault!!!
