New customer need info on DLM?
Hi guys,
So I have had Sky Unlimited broadband since friday and everything has been ok so far. Here are the stats:
System Up Time: 93:04:04
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time WAN MER 1833294 8047553 0 4162 0 29:33:50 LAN Down 0 0 0 0 0 93:04:04 WLAN Up 5304456 3435376 0 0 4857 93:03:43 ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 12284 kbps 1116 kbps Line Attenuation 28.5 dB 17.1 dB Noise Margin 5.6 dB 9.2 dB
I think the DLM has stopped now as broadband has not re-synced in nearly 30hours, but I was expecting a better speed than that and not too sure what to do. Is it possible DLM is still on but it just did not re-sync last night?
I hope the DLM hasn't stopped as I moved from TalkTalk and was synced at around 14000 kbps with them with a ping of around 40ms, but so far with Sky my ping is nearly 60ms and only get about 10meg download speeds!
Any help is much appreciated.

Re: New customer need info on DLM?
with your noise margins move possibly down to 3bd downstream you may get 14 sync speed but you will have wait for at 6 more days before get help from tech support unless there is dropouts or telephone fault , it maybe dlm has finished ,but recheck physical setup and post stats for just router in test socket , also any problem with telephone line? noise ?

Re: New customer need info on DLM?
The router is plugged into an NTE5 socket, which goes straight into the test socket.
Really what I want to know is if the DLM is still running, even though the router has been on for 34 hours now without disconnecting??
My estimated speed Sky gave me was between 11.3 and 18 meg...... here is my speed test today:

and Ping test:

Again, when I was wing TalkTalk(just last week) my Speed would be around 12meg down and ping of about 40ms, so I'm not over the moon with these stats today, especially of the DLM has stopped!

Re: New customer need info on DLM?
You are below what you should get for sure.
ADSL2+ Speed Test
We estimate your line is capable of between 14mb to 16mb broadband on an ADSL2+ service. This ADSL2 Line Speed Calculator is a best guess only, as to the broadband speed that maybe possible on your telephone line. The checker provides results of up to 24mb with the data that is made available to us. This is purely for indication only and should not be classed as the Line Speed that you would receive on any ADSL or LLU product from another ISP.
As for DLM then if you call Sky, they will either say call back after the 10 day period, or they may reset it etc
~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

Re: New customer need info on DLM?
Spoke to Sky yesterday and was told that as far as they could tell the DLM was still going, but it has been over 50hours now without a re-sync so I decided to switch the router off for a minute and back on to see if the stats improved and got exactly the same stats as before:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 12284 kbps 1116 kbps Line Attenuation 28.0 dB 17.0 dB Noise Margin 6.8 dB 9.0 dB
The guy I spoke to at Sky said he would call me back on Sunday, as DLM should be finished by then, and was going to see about getting me on the gaming profile, but would it be worth me asking if they can improve my speed or put DLM on again? What do you guys think is best?
Cheers

Re: New customer need info on DLM?
i would leave on dlm if your put on gaming profile line will be capped to 10mb gaming profile only manual choice as with those reading will not fit higher gaming profile dlm is and does set your line higher than this

Re: New customer need info on DLM?
I really think DLM has stopped, no re-sync in over 3 days now. I logged onto mysky and it still says it is running, but no change on my end.
The Sky advisor I spoke to said I would be on the 20mb gaming profile as I have speeds over 10meg? But then I have also read that you can be put on gaming profile without you speed being capped?
What would be for the best, get gaming profile of ask for DLM to start again?

New customer need info on DLM?
Can't help with DLM side of things but don't trust pingtest.net.
Use a command prompt to test your ping. You will get a more accurate result.

Re: New customer need info on DLM?
Are you a very keen gamer? If you are you could ask to be put on a gaming Profile. There is not much choice, a bit over 10.2mbps or 20mbps. With the first you would loose a bit of speed but have a good ping and a more stable line. The second is a bit high and may cause your router to become unstable. I doubt if they would chance putting you on 20.
If you are not a keen gamer, Ping times are next to meaningless so leave things as they are.
