      Impatiant waiting on DLM.

I got my Sky broadband on Wednesday (13th) and my DLM started on Fiday morning (15th) when it went from 4mb to 6mb, but it hasn't moved since.

My line attenuation is 27db and my noise margin is 16.8db so I was hoping I'd get something like 12-13mb.

I used to get a rock steady 6.5mb from BT on ADSLMax.

Just seams strange that my router hasn't resynced in 4 days

      Re: Impatient waiting on DLM.

It has occasionally been known for DLM to start after 3 days.

With that attenuation you should certainly get more than 12Mb, provided there isn't anything else preventing things.

In the mean time, take a look at the link below and see if there is anything you can do to improve your connection speed. Remember never to connect the router on an extension lead, always in the master socket too.

Thanks for the quick reply. I know I just need to be patient, but I want speed now :-p

I have my router going directly into my master socket on a filter so should be ok. However it's the old small type socket without the test socket :-s

Do you have any telephone extensions connected to you master socket?

If so are they connected behind the faceplate or do they plug in the front of the socket?

None at all. I've got 1 filter directly into the master socket. Onto that is the router and a splitter which goes to the house phone and sky box.

The max speed calculator on kitz.co.uk says I should get 17mb with my line stats. That would be nice :-D I'll not hold my breath though.

      Re: Impatient waiting on DLM.

      All should be fine then.

The speed calculator on this site gave me 16Mb+ when I checked earlier. This is perhaps a little closer for your connection speed, but not the throughput.

However there is a difference in the Line Attenuation figures from ADSL and ADSL2+. It goes up a little when going to ADSL2+. I am not 100% sure of going from ADSL2 to ADSL2+, but I would expect it to be similar. This is why i reduced my estimate.

The difference in the Line Attenuation figures is due to the frequency ranges that each connection type uses. ADSL2+ uses the widest compared to ADSL & ADSL2.

In practise the throughput is a little lower due to overheads. In my own case it's about 2Mb lower than the connection speed. This can be seen in the stats in my signature.

When your connection goes live, post your initial stats and members can provide a clearer idea.

      For reference:
      • ADSL = up to 8Mb
      • ADSL2, also known as BT Max = up to 12Mb
      • ADSL2+ also known as 21CN & is also what you get with LLU equipment (i.e. when Sky has their equipment in your local exchange) = up to 24Mb or 20Mb in Sky's case

Typically the difference is between 2 & 3 (but can be as much as 4dB according to Kitz) so for 27dB assume 30dB on ADSL2+. And Kitz works on a 6dB noise margin.
