Unhappy New House, New Broadband, Terrible Speeds :(

Moved into a brand new house recently in Kent. Got HD and phone with Sky, so got Broadband with them aswell. Went for the unlimited service as we download a lot.

Was with BT in London and had a connection at around 8Mb

Now its trawlling along, downloading at dial up speed (if that)

Stats are for today, I am sure I am in DLM

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 661 kbps 582 kbps
Line Attenuation 57.0 db 33.1 db
Noise Margin 12.9 db 10.5 db

The letter from Sky said I could expect 3Mb on this line, though I know from the Attenuation we are quite far away, I still have seen people with simular distances achieve around the 3Mb speed.

Any advice on what speed we could possible achieve, and what is effecting it at the moment? Sky are definatly testing my line at the moment (Had Broadband activated 3 days ago) but it had been around this speed the whole time?

Are the noise margins effecting it? Im not sure what they should be, I only know they are concerning the noise that is interupted on the line.

I have microfilters fitted fwiw

Any help appreciated, really do not want to end up with dial up speed internet

Have a look on here

Sky router stats (speed, noise, attenuation) explained

It will give you an idea of what speed you will get.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I did see that post already and saw it said I could potentialy get around 4500kbps which is more than Sky quoted.

But I thought someone might be able to give a little more info from the stats I posted, and from the fact the line hasnt increased over 1Mb since I have had it (4 Days now)

Re: New House, New Broadband, Terrible Speeds :(

As you have stated DLM is running and you will need to allow it to run its course before trying any alterations etc.
The important thing is to ensure you do not disconect the router during the DLM process as it will see this and make alterations as it will not know that you have made the disconnection and see it as a potential line problem.
Once DLM has completed we can look at things like checking stats at the test socket and ensuring your wiring is upto scratch. Doing this now would involve disconnections which is not good for the process.
Its probably not what you wanted to hear but leave things be for now, as DLM runs its course things may improve automatically and if they dont when its finished we can take things from there.

you're capped - if DLM has finished get CST to manually configure the line...

Re: New House, New Broadband, Terrible Speeds :(

I think ADSL2+ is having difficulty with your line and you will probably be switched to G.DMT. It should be fairly obvious to Sky that your connection is not going to improve, no matter how long DLM runs.
I know you have been told not to move the router till DLM is complete but your speeds are so dismal you are not going to do any harm by moving it. If you have an NTE5 Test socket, link below and have extensions wired into it, it would be better moving it now, rather than prolonging the agony. If you try it in the test socket and take and post your stats from there, we might get an idea where the problem is.
If you only have a master socket with no extensions, don't bother as it will make little difference, the problem is in your external line.
