Fit a filtered faceplate (Post19) and buy a longer RJ11 cable. Get a good quality one from the same supplier - ADSL Nation LTD. Longer lengths are available. This will enable you to place your router more conveniently. Being in an enclosed cupboard is not the best place for it.

Re: New House, New Broadband, Terrible Speeds :(

I had a look at faceplates and the BT Iplate. However online guides say I dont need one as my master socket has the BT Openworld logo on???

The router isnt located in the closet, I have a 5 metre RJ11cable that goes from it to the router thats located in the room with the PC. Problem is it goes across the middle of the floor as I would need a 20 metre one to wire it around the door.

I have a filter plugged into the test socket, with which the RJ11 cable is in and the telephone line.

The telephone line wont work on any of the normal sockets.

Totally confused now

That's why you need a filtered faceplate, this is totally different to an i-plate.

Re: New House, New Broadband, Terrible Speeds :(

or this as post 19 - ADSL Nation LTD.

RJ11 cables are available at 20Ms, but I would not normally recommend one so long. For this length it would be better using a 20m ethernet cable, with the router close to the main socket. The only problem is if you have more than one device to connect you also need a switch, which adds to the cost.

I bought the faceplate mentioned from adslnation, just waiting on delivery.

Will be able to leave the router in the closet and have an ethernet cable from there as we only have one PC

Re: New House, New Broadband, Terrible Speeds :(

Just make sure it has some ventilation, routers can overheat very easily without it.
