Which "mode" am I on ?

Hi, DLM has recently been run on my line. ( probably due to a nearby interference issue effecting the reliability of the connection. )
Pre DLM connection was :
Down sync/attn/nm approx 2800 / 50db / 7db up sync 768
SkyMax package, line length 3809 metre so probably on G.dmt setup.
Interference during day/evenings, noise margin was ok 7db at night.

After DLM (and interference source removed) connection was :
Down sync/attn/nm 1019 / 53db / 13+db up sync 412
Very little variation in noise margin during day/night as expected.

After contacting Sky and requesting reset back to PreDLM settings :
Settings now down sync/attn/nm is : 2532 ( appears capped ) / 53 / 10 db
and up sync still at 412.
Now noise margin and connection dies at night between 8-9pm & 4.30-5.00 am ! The exact opposite of the original fault ! Connection ok during day !
Several things confuse me :
Why the change in line atten ? tried different filters.
Why has up sync dropped from 768 to 412 ?
Am I running on ADSL2+ connection instead of G.dmt ?
Anyone any idea where nighttime unreliability has come from ?

I've did all the usual checks to locate the original source of interference,
but same checks this time has achieved no result...

Does anyone have any ideas what could be happening ?
Am I back to Sky to attempt another preDLM request ?

Thanks
Alex

Re: Which "mode" am I on ?

Given your speed pre DLM and after, I would say you are not on ADSL2+ . ADSL 2+ is normally (from what I understand) for people capable of getting 8mb or more.
When you called sky did you mention the downstream being capped and you wanting it changed, or did you also make mention of the upstream?

Several months ago my upstream was capped, although it made no difference at all. It was only after I called up and asked them to give me back the full upstream speed as well as my best possible downstream speed that this was sorted out.

If your router is synced too high and you get to night time, then this may cause your SNR to die and so drop out.

Re: Which "mode" am I on ?

ADSL2+ normaly increases the attenuation by about 3 dbs. Given your above figures I would say you were on ADSL2+ and have now been put on to G.DMT.

You may have to ask Sky to reset your upload, if you need a higher upload that is.

Hi, I asked Sky to reset back to original defaults as I assumed this would
correct both down and up sync speeds in one go. Their response appears to
be cap the down sync and do nothing about the up sync speed !
I can't work out why the massive noise margin drop over night. A few db I
can understand due to foreign radio reception .etc, but the full 10db noise
margin ? A year ago, before the interference and DLM the noise margin
varied less than 4db over a 24 hour period.

thanks
Alex

Hi, Do you mean the other way round ?
I was on 50db before DLM, I now have 53db so doesn't that imply G.dmt to ADSL2+ ?
I'm paying for the Sky Max package, so I can't see why I can't have 768 upload again as it worked fine at that speed before DLM...

thanks
Alex

Re: Which "mode" am I on ?

TomD,

I was under the impression that Sky was not int he game of serving ADSL2+ to people who could not obtain 8Mb as it was a wasted excercise?

This is what I was told before and during my setup and activation period. If this has now changed, I would be happy to try ADSL2+ to see if anything changes on my line

Re: Which "mode" am I on ?

I understood that DLM was in fact testing the lines for ADSL2+ compatibility. There is at least one member I know of who is on ADSL2+ with a high attenuation. Is it Monday??

@OP - Yes sorry, I did get it the wrong way round, it appears you are now on ADSL2+, which increases the attenuation. Returning to G.DMT would probably be better. It is a pity you do not have a V1 router, which can show detailed stats. This would show definitely what you are on.

Re: Which "mode" am I on ?

Now this begs the question,

Would the line be bumped up to ADSL2+ if no ADSL2+ compatible router is connected? or would it be left as g.dmt until such time that a ADSL2+ router is connected.

Given my cirumstance I dont think I am on ADSL2+ yet, but it could be something I could ask them to try lol
