If you mean you have a ADSL Nation filter faceplate, then removing the ring wire will have very little or no effect. However, so long as your phones operate correctly, it will do no harm at all. See how you go

Hi Saturday, thanks the information.
Interesting, my initial thought was that I had some sort of line fault (as my stats seemed a bit out when compared to others on this site), however when I found out about DLM I put the crazy stats down to this.
Thinking about it though it's quite probable we've got some sort of line fault (wife mentioned the phone has been crackly from time to time - I thought it was just because we were phoning the US on it). We're in a brand new flat here and the builders seemed to have skimped on quality in order to get it finished quickly (wrong plugs on TV socket, windows not fitting properly, missing aerial to TV socket connection - thank god we're only renting!). I reckon we've probably been living with the fault since we moved in (and with a connection of around 2Mb - quite adequate for our needs - however, we are paying for 8Mb!).
This is probably a local wiring fault (within the apartment block) as a neighbour directly below us has an excellent 8Mb+ connection.
Plan of action : Wait for DLM to finish, see what rate we end up with, then call Sky/BT to report a line fault and try and get someone to come out and sort it.
Once again, thanks for you help

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines
Hi.. my attenuation has increased to the following, it was normal between 46-48, also sync was normally below 4922, sky told me the had to cap my speed this was about a month ago. when i spoke to them. i did phone sky they said my line was on DLM as of yesterday. Does this mean i am on ADSL2, i have netgear ver 2. How can i check ? on Network type it does say ppoa.
Thank you.

If its a line fault local (as in your side of the main socket) then Sky can do nothing. Do you have more than one telephone socket on the line itself? If so does the main socket on the line have a split running left to right just above the screws? If it's an internal wiring fault after the main socket its yours to deal with (well the contractor or landlord).

I doubt that DLM will be happy with your low noise margin so I'd expect it to lower your sync rate.
Have a look at the cabling and faceplate help forum for info on diagnosing and fixing line faults. More often than not the problem is within the home and easily fixed - if you're paying for (up to) 8meg then you may as well have it. If however, the builders have messed up the wiring within the building then pass the fault over to BT as it becomes their problem. Do check that it isn't "your" wiring (i.e. inside the flat) before involving BT. As you'll see in the C&FH forum, you'll have to do a test socket test which is very simple.

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines
Just got off the phone with CST who confirm DLM was finished on my but it's been capped to 10293/606 kbps when it used to be 15323/764 kbps so I asked to have restored and she basically said I need to do their troubleshooting steps first before they'll proceed, Cheek of it, not the CST agent, she was polite and only doing her job...it just this DLM thing has Peed off allot of people.

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines
Ive just got off the phone to CST to check to see if my DLM had finished, it started on the 5th June at approx 0200hrs, so I thought I would give it the full 20 days just to be sure. When I asked the nice lassie if it had finished, she informed me that due to the "decent quality" of my line, DLM had actually finished on the 9th June . My orignal sync was 2568/768 ATTN 60db and since the start of DLM it has stayed roughly within 3008 down and exactly 412 up. I asked if it was possible if I could get my original uprate speed increased to the original speed as I had plenty of room to spare on my snr, its currently at 16.5db. She checked with the techs and they said this was the best my line can handle and it would be impossible to increase the uprate sync. Can anyone verify if this is the case:

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines
either CST didn't wanna know or they don't have a clue about SNRs...which would be worrying...

If your noise margin is 16.5db then that's clearly rubbish. If you had a stable connection (and a healthy nm) before DLM and have, as Sky agree, a "decent quality" line, you should call back and ask to be completely uncapped.

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines
I spoke to one of the "top guys" who said there was noise/errors on the line which is why I was capped and I told him I had 0 problems before DLM. He also told me my sync was faster my line should handle as BT said I should only have 6.5 and I said my line is 905km from the exchange and it's been sync at 15323/764 since Jan 07. In the end he tweaked the line and it sync at 14879/766 but I could be put on DLM again if it detects errors on my line, I've have to check it daily.
