Think someone has just given it a kick! In the last 15 minutes or so it has lost connection (proper lost connection, not just a slight glitch in downloads ...) 4 times. It went up to 3800 and is now at 3Mb ... wonder how fast it will go back down to 0.3 again?!

I have noticed that, when you check the router stats, when its just chugging along not doing much, it seems to have a retrain reason "8000", whereas I get lots of loss of signal on retrain reason "1" - don't know if this is coincidence or not, as I have no idea what these codes mean.

Oh --- look - just noticed no longer on ADSL2.

Smashing. So after all that, they've chucked me off DLM, first thing that happens is I get disconnects and errors, and lose almost 1Mb.

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines

Just spoken to Sky. Yup. DLM has finished on my line. Yippeee!!!!

The verdict? Waste of time. Hopefully they learnt something (probably, "it doesn't always work"). But basically DLM left my line at 384Kbps and they have manually reset it ... and guess what? They think it can probably get up to a maximum of about 4Mb. What was I on before they started? 3.9Mb.

I could have told em that and saved all the trouble.

I did suggest I should be paid by Sky for helping them work out how to use DLM. The answer? "nice try, but no, sorry"! hehe.

I'm pleased for you Stumpy. Of all the people on here, you seemed to suffer the most. Once the dust has settled Sky really should look at a couple of free months (tv as well) for everyone who has been on this trial. (pig doing aerobatics outside window)

the staff aren't the problem - it's the system written to process the DLM that's screwed!! still, all's well that ends well

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines

Hi all!

I won't go over *ALL* my details again.. Suffice it to say...
Started at 11,717 before DLM - pretty stable line IMHO... Router always on.

DLM started (without warning) June 4th.. Speeds started to drop. They stayed at 512kbps for about a week then for the last week stayed stuck at below speeds:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 384 kbps 412 kbps
Line Attenuation 38.0 db 18.7 db
Noise Margin 25.3 db 23.0 db

DLM was supposed to be up today but when I phoned earlier this morning, was still ongoing. Had resigned to waiting a few days more...

Anyway...

I just had a phone call from a very helpfull engineer who wanted to know all about the problems DLM had caused, my equipment, online habits, sync rates, stability etc etc.

He said he was phoning around other customers tonight who had problems with DLM and was trying to find out why the DLM process had not worked in each case as he did so...

He was able to manually reset the line to a respectable just under 8MB sync.
(Having read the normal speeds a lot of people get on this forum, I feel lucky to be honest).

He wanted to make it higher but for some reason he said, after DLM some lines won't take the speed they try to set it at - he was going to look into the reasons for this in more detail.. Meanwhile, at least my line is usable again (IMO) and I am happy to stay with Sky as my ISP.

I hope the research into cases like mine may help others before it goes live on everyones lines... Maybe there is a way the software can flag up a problem without having to go on for the 20 days...

He is going to monitor my line speed and call me back tomorrow night..

My old speed was 11,717 before DLM - now it is :

System Up Time: 16:22:23

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 3486 4195 0 0 0 0:21:33
LAN 1740166 1708104 0 844 844 16:22:23
WLAN 0 0 0 0 0 0:00:00
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8736 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.0 db 19.5 db
Noise Margin 8.3 db 14.0 db

So , lost just over 2MB in speed over this but believe me I am happy to have that higher speed right now...

So to anyone out there still under DLM, hang in there....

Thanks to NewsreadeR for your PM as well ;-) Appreciated!

you're on gdmt which would suggest why you won't go higher BUT at least you're working again though...
