Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines
I called Sky and was eventually sent to a higher level tech agent.
She messed about with the router for around 20 minutes, and got a max of 7645 kbps at 15 dB Noise Margin.
Sigh.
She could not get the Sagem to go back to its noise margin of 6 dB, or even 9db.
So, either she did not know how to do it correctly, or there's something else about the modem.
I was reliably getting 8.5 - 9 mbps before this stupid DLM was started by Sky.
Perhaps this is just an excuse to lower peoples' data rates...

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines
i doubt the agent tried you on adsl2+...something for you to try should you want to try again and hopefully get a more clued up agent - if you have a test socket put the router in there before calling...an SNR of 15 means you're still capped...

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines
I seem to remember that if I take the faceplate off the master socket, there's a Test Socket in there...
ADSL2+ ... I have Sky Max with the new-ish Sagem router; I assume that means ADSL2+ for me, right?
The agent was aware of my Sagem router.
She said she'd monitor the line over the next 24 hours, but I didn't know enough to tell her anything otherwise...

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines
regarding adsl2+ - not neccessarily straight on it. if your upstream says 768 exactly, you're on gdmt...if it says 764 or there abouts it's adsl2+...
and yes, the test socket is inside the master socket behind the lower half of the faceplate...

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines
The agent actually increased the upstream speed to 860 kbps...

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines
My actual speed has halved but synchronization is steady. Shall just leave. Bit sad really, 'cos really supported SKY but it all seems like a Plusnet/ Tiscali scenario. Can't be bothered with the hassle of ringing to correct what I pay for, and cost is not really an issue, so it looks like a change.

Thought my connection was slower this morning. Just checked and its dropped down to 6 meg. Can you buy out of your Sky contract ? I dont want anything more to do with them.

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines
Well my line has had no loss of signal for almost 3 days now ... yet I'm still running at the same speed of 384Kb - think the DLM on my line is stuck or something. Needs a good kicking to get it going again ...

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines
Well have just spent about a hour on the phone to Skys higher level support. The DLM is still running on my line but they have reset the line to the old speed as that was the perfect setup for the line. So will just have to wait and see if the DLM changes it again.
