Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines

I wonder if this is happening because of the router firmware update. I have installed the update myself and found I get a much faster and stable connection.
I wonder if I can get higher and Sky did cap the speed a while back due to evening drop outs.
It will be really good if they find my line / router can now cope with a faster speed

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines

I wonder if this has started. SNR shot up to 30 from 16 at around midday after a disconnect, speed plummeted from 5700 to 2700. I'm on the Ripon exchange ..... we were one of the first to get a firmware upgrade so perhaps they're rolling it out in the same order.
....Just rebooted and back to normal, so possibly not!

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines

Interesting. I got V1.03.87 at about 05:30 on 02/04/2008 and my uptime is now just over 614 hours - which is a new record personal best for me!

The connection has been very stable since getting V1.03.87 - it was pretty good before, but I always seemed to end up rebooting the router after a couple of weeks or so (if it lasted that long, sometimes it would just drop after 7 - 10 days).

My next benchmark is 28 days - I wonder if it can stay online until then?
Or have I just jinxed it? Probably!

To infinity (or at least 30 days) and beyond...

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines

My speed had dropped from 16M to 423kbs and it stinks, after the router firmware upgrade everything was good, and then my snr dropped to 8.2 which was still o.k for my line, but now my download speed has plummited downhill to 432kbps.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 16383 kbps 765 kbps
Line Attenuation 18.5 db 11.6 db
Noise Margin 7.9 db 11.5 db

As you can see, my connection speed is top dog.

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines

If anyone is worried about their speed and is on the connect package check te up and downstream speeds. If they are both 288 then you are on IP Home 250 and will need regraded to Max. If it is coming up as 488 then what has normally happened is that BT have placed a Cap on the line which is due to the fact that they dont think your line can handle any more. Again this can be removed by calling through to the tech line

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines

I hope they don't "shoot themselves in the foot" doing this! While I appreciate some customers have connectivity and stablisation problems, I myself have enjoyed a very stable connection for a year or so as I understand a good many others have too, if that all changes for me after they have done their "tweaking" I wont be very happy!!
I personally would like them to put their time and money into looking into the prospects of fibre optic technology that promises very high speeds rather than let the competition (Virgin) get "streets ahead" first and have to play catch up later when all their customers have switched!!

Re: Sky to perform a spot of ADSL line management on some 300,000 lines

Im on the Selby exchange, my ping has been at 46ms for the past 7 days (increased from 32ms). It has been confirmed by TS that my max delay is still set at 8, would the latency increase have anything to do with the reprofiling?
I havent had any probs with my connection for the past year (2848Kb down, 640Kb up, 7.2db-13db down, 14db up, 32ms-33ms latency, jolt/bbc).
