New router - anything I should know?

This is a discussion on New router - anything I should know? within the Sky On Demand forums, part of the Other Sky help and support category; Thinking about it, I wouldn't want WPS on an IP Camera. It would provide too much of a hacking risk....

Re: New router - anything I should know?

wondering if the fact I could not view on wirless is down to the fact the default port is 80 and that sky blocks this in firewall? There are instructions to setup a different port here: How to view ip camera remotely using sky router - Sky Community
and here: Sky User - How to port forward on a Sky Sagem F@ST2504n Router

I seem to have all inbound blocked !!! unless someone can tell me otherwise from below?

Re: New router - anything I should know?

Try this - Create a Service using 8080 as start and finish ports. Call it Cam1. Do the same using 8888 as the port, call it CAM2. Now create Firewall Rules allowing both these services. You will need the IP address of the camera to do this.

To access the camera from within your network you will probably have to use its IP address, thus 192.168.0.xxx:8888 (xxx number allocated to camera). To access it from outwith your network you need the external IP of the router, or a DNS address followed by :8888.

Re: New router - anything I should know?

Thanks, sorry for no reply I have been on holiday.

TomD, when you say "need to know IP address of camera", you mean the one that I (successfully) assigned to it when it was connected to to the router by Ethernet cable?

And I only need to create Inbound services right?

Yes, create Inbound services for the address you have given the camera.

Re: New router - anything I should know?

Thanks again, but I decided too techie for me and sent cameras back. Lady from Sales asked me to give them 5 stars, so what the heck, I did just to keep them happy and maximize my chances of a trouble free refund lol. The time and effort they invested to help me was 5* actually; just a shame the product and docs not up to scratch as you said.

Next time WPS button and known/well reviewed brand only! Thanks for that tip.
