      Adding Broadband + Phone

      Hi

I wonder if anyone can help me. I'm moving into my first house next Saturday (21st), I've already got Sky TV set-up but I'm not sure what to do about broadband. The previous tenant cancelled their phone service with BT on the 20th June, they were told it would take a month to cancel as per the BT cancellation policy. They didn't have broadband so I'm hoping to order broadband and phone services with Sky ASAP.

What would be the quickest way to have the broadband and phone set-up? i.e if I order it now 8 days before BT cancel the phone line, will it hurry up the process or will I have to wait until the 20th before I can place an order with Sky?

One last question , How long will it take Sky to activate my phone line so I can use the internet?

      Cheers

From my understanding, you will have to wait until BTO have marked the line as "Clear". This can actually take up to 6 weeks to happen.

By all means contact Sky by they will be unable to place the order until the line has been cleared by BTO.

Thanks, do you think it would be better if I can get BT to stop the cancellation process so I can just switch the bill over to my name. Would I be able to get broadband quicker that way?

I would expect that it is going to be quite impossible for you to stop the process. Apart from the fact that you would have to deal with BT India, there are Data Protection laws in place to prevent this.

Once the cancellation has completed it is normally around 10 days for Sky to get the line activated. There could be a delay on this at present as it appears that BTO are working hard to repair the various exchanges across the country which have been subjected to flood damage. I would hope that there will some normality soon though.

I would go ahead and order with Sky, I don't think the fact that BT are cancelling one of their customers' supply has much to do with it. If they didn't have broadband there will not be a 'tag' on the line which can sometimes delay things. Sky will take the line over and arrange to activate broadband as soon as it is possible. I think if you wait until the cancellation goes through it may show up as a non-compatible line, which can cause problems.
