      Leaving Sky

Hi I'm looking to leave Sky Connect due to their throttling during peak times. After 5pm it slows down to a point it's pointless using it, pages load slow also playing games online isn't an option due to the horrid speeds.

Costs 17.99 a month to use a few hours a day.

Looking for a good reliable constant ISP for my area. My exchange is Llangoed WNLAD.

With your help I hope we can pick a new ISP.

Cheers and I'll see you later.

      Re: Leaving Sky

      Hi,

I recently switched from Sky to Plusnet (currently on the Pro package but switching to Premium next month). I can thoroughly recommend them, excellent customer support and a much faster connection than I was getting on Sky Connect.

Also my ping has gone from around 60ms to 20ms (as Plusnet allowed me to have interleaving turned off, where as Sky would not). Gaming receives the highest prioritisation possible on the Plusnet network on both the Premium and Pro packages so you should notice a big difference.

From what I've read on the Plusnet forum, Plusnet are scrapping the Premium package in favour of a new Extra package on April the 12th which (as far as anyone can tell) will have 60GB peak time usage instead of 80GB but will be cheaper, if I find the link again I'll post it here .
      Edit: Clicky

I'd recommend going for Pro if you can manage with the 20GB peak time usage (you get unlimited usage between midnight and 8am) however obviously go for Premium/Extra if you need the extra peak time usage. If you're unsure whether you use 20GB you can always go for Pro and you can be switched to Premium/Extra on the next billing date, free of charge.

Here are some links you may find useful when comparing Plusnet packages:

      Traffic Management: Clicky

      Traffic Prioritisation: Clicky

If you need any help drop me a PM or reply here and I'll do my best .

I always thought the internet where we live was awful, it wasn't until I found this forum and all the posts about sky connect that I realised I was wrong! .

Williams1: I believe if you phone up sky after 24 hours of requesting the MAC code they should be able to give you it. However from what I remember they quote 48hours.
